    Fact: Amsterdam is beautiful

It's my favourite city. Just been on my stag do last weekend and I'm always sad when I have to come home from Amsterdam.

There's an amazing vibe around the city and despite the crack dealers on corners and prostitutes I feel far safer in this city than anywhere else, including my own home town.

The weather was beautiful and we met some great people. Everything moves at a such a different pace than the UK where everyone seems to rush around.

Amsterdam at dawn is a beautiful site, the streets are still packed with revellers, but no sign of drunkenness or any threat.

I can see why people go to Amsterdam and just stay there.

In fact, I wish my honeymoon was there, but France will have to do.

It's so weird getting married (next Friday), I've found myself emotional for no particular reason over the past few weeks. I think in the lead up to it, it makes you reflect on those around you who've done so much for you throughout life. I have to say at the moment, I feel like the luckiest person in the world.

    Blimey, I'm rambling on...

Anyone else been to Amsterdam? If so, what are your thoughts?

We went for Big_Leon's birthday in May, and in my opinion we didn't spend enough time there. There was so much to do and see that it was difficult going home.

It is a beautiful city, i agree and I'm definitely going back soon. The vibe is something else.

    And Congrats and good luck...

Yeah I love Amsterdam, and not just for the obvious reasons Its just such a nice city to walk around - day or night, and your absolutely right that I always feel 100% safe there..Also plenty to do, and all the people seem very friendly.

I'll be going again later this year if I can afford it (my 4th time), probably staying at the flying pig youth hostel again, which is another great place to stay. Last time we were there we met so many interesting people from all over the world; many new friends who I still speak to today 6 months on

The way my brother described Amsterdam, it sounds like a bigger version of Camden Town, LOL, he goes there quite frequently apparently for business, as he works in marketing and so often has to travel abroad to close marketing deals with companies etc.

I'm now thinking of going there with the missus, as we both like a good few drinks

I agree, we met loads of people from across Europe who were holidaying there or on stag-dos and there were some great stories to be told. We met one English guy who had come there 15 years ago on a weekend's holiday and stayed. He even said that if we come back there's always a place at his house to crash.

I've only been twice....and I have to say I was pretty much bored the second visit. It's strange, I really enjoyed the first visit (1998ish), wandering around and visiting the tourist sites and museums, and a bit of what alot of young people do in Ams. It could well be that it was the first time Ive been to a European city in my adult life that I found it so good the first time, but the 2nd time (2002), I thought it was a lot seedier, even outwith the 'RLD'. I guess it has no charming effect on me ...

In comparison, my favourite city on the continent (that I would choose to stay in) would be Barcelona, without a doubt.

    Re: Fact: Amsterdam is beautiful

Well, our honeymoon was supposed to be South of France and Ireland, but we changed the flights from Ireland back to Amsterdam. Two times in one month! I still keep finding many treasures in this wonderful city. This time we hung around the Spui area of the City, nice restaurants etc...

Took a ride through the back streets of the Dam on the back of a bike taxi at 1am, something which I've never done before in the City. Through the Leidesplein, then Rembrantsplein, then through RLD and then down the Damrak, back up and to Dam square - possibly the finest moments I've ever had in the City.

Once again I'm sad to leave the place and doubt I'll be back for a good few years now.

I saw an amazing site last time I was in amterdam.

It was a mobile bar. Basicall it looked like a flatbed truck but with seats all along each side and a far in the middle
