People queuing for lottery tickets make me mad

Every since they installed those stupid lottery machines in corner shops, newsagents, newspaper booths and post offices it's been getting right on my nerves.

The post office is the biggest culprit because at least most newsagents have someone seperately dealing with the queue of deluded OAPS, but the P.O use the same queue as people who are buying stamps, envelopes etc..

It drives me up the wall, all I wanted was an envelope yet the old lady at the front had about a dozen tickets that she wanted checking just in case she'd won. After finding out she was a loser again she handed over 5 more tickets for the next draw but had failed to mark down the correct amount of numbers. By this time you could hear the tuts up and down the queue.

Amazingly, after a good 5-10 mins, the next person also had tickets that she wanted checking. If you buy a lottery ticket why don't you check the numbers! Gee..everyone has teletext in case you miss it and don't choose lunch time to check them when other people have more important business to attend to. OAPS are by far the biggest culprit, they're not working so why don't they do it at a time when other folk are in work, like 10am.

I propose an OAP ban in town centres between the hours of 8-9.30am, 12-2pm and 5-7pm, that will sort out the problem. Oh..and no OAPS allowed in the town centre on a Saturday at all.

I'm sick of these lottery machines at my local post office. I've stocked up on envelopes and stamps so I don't have to wait in the ridiculous queue of losers.

I just wish these people would use other outlets, the post office is for posting stuff as far as I'm concerned. They've gone right over the top trying to get their fingers in every single pie and the queues on any day are horrendous but made worse by these people.

Hey I do love OAPS though, I'll be one soon enough and can't wait to annoy people!

And broke every vaguely ethical bone in your body

I would prefer to see them at the local post offices than in their cars driving to Sainsbury's on pension day tbh.

If you buy your lottery ticket on a Monday, you are more likely to be dead by Saturday, than to win the lottery.

The lottery is a tax on the poor (or should that be stupid?)..

the lottery is not a tax on the poor or stupid. It is a game. that is all. People are free to play it if they want.

well if you won it you would change your tune, its not only the poor that play the lotto u fool.

if i was minted and it cost a measly pound to double my worth id be doing it too.

as said above its a game its up to people if they want to play it, you cant assoiciate the lottery with a particular class of people...

Well that just depends how good/dodgy your stats are. I *think* that it is particularly associated with poor income families, ie they buy more tickets proportionally, hence the accusations of it being a tax on poor people. This is a valid accusation IMHO - especially because it can be seen to be offering the hope of a quick fix solution to financial problems. People not in financial problems are in less of a need for a quick fix, and while they may think it would be nice to have a million pounds, they're not as desperate for it.

ok.. but still its not only poor people that buy lots of tickets. i just think you cant stereotype a whole type of people or the lottery so easily

It's not stereotyping, it's a statistical correlation If I say ravens are usually black, because statistically that's borne out in the facts, I'm not sterotyping

Saying it's a tax on the stupid though isn't borne out of fact, merely someone's personal opinion which is fine to be given

BTW I think they should introduce Tar Pits
