Wedding Fees are the Church(C of E); Parliament and the PCC(Parochial Church Councils) of the Church you are getting married in.

There is a legal requirement for tthe fees to be paid if you want to get married in Church. Alternatively you can try the registers office

It is really a small price to pay, when you look at the cost or "donation" of your reception; wedding dress; honeymoon and memories of one of the best day of your life and girlfriend.etc. The wedding fee is going to be the least of your expense.

Is there really a price for love and marraige?

No, I think it was just the initial shock. I'm catholic so thought that weddings just required a donation.

I don't understand all this Parish business or why it matters. I have to have my bands read out at two churches and pay them both...very strange. I've been going to the church I'm getting married in for over 6 months and I have my first gig there, playing guitar on Jan 7th!

Incidently, anyone know where I can download hymns from? I've got the sheet music for 5 hymns but don't really know them (apart from Good King Wencelas).

Your banns being read out in the parishes where you and your fiance live are legal requirements, that the Church has no control over. Without it your marraige won't be valid, and the fees are set by the government.

It takes a lot to keep a Church open, heating lighting, organist, vergers, cleaners, etc have to be paid for. Probally from past experience people's donations didn't reflect the service being provided, or the cost of paying people to carry out these duties.

Baptismal services ae free, because it mostly happens during the weekly services, so 'no cost' involved, since the Church is willing to bear the cost. I suppose they have to draw the line somewhere.

    For hymns try:
    http://www.oremus.org/hymnal/
    or
    http://www.cyberhymnal.org/misc/search.htm

I dont know about down loading them, but it does play what you search for.

I pray your wedding preps go well. All the best.

Go for something like Indescribable, or Be Thou My Vision. Perhaps ride into the church on a white stallion.

My first live gig(as it were) was a success. Many thanks vicar for your hymn link which aided me in my practice.

Played with a double bass and piano, great fun!
