Question SATA III\6gb/s Hard Drive in a SATA II controller

    Hey Guys,

Has anyone come accross any issues with a SATA III disk connected to a SATA II controller?

SATA III disks are much cheaper than II and more choice available. I've yet to try mixing these.
Do the disks have a jumper setting like SATA II drives into a SATA I controller?

    Cheers,

SATA3 is backwards compatible with SATA2 so you will be fine.

I expected no issues but just thought I'd pose the question incase anyone couldnt get disk brand X working with controller brand Y.
There were a few issues as I recall with some SATA I disks connecting to certain SATA II controllers, but SATA I drives were very short lived thankfully.

I'm using an OCZ Agility3 SATA3 drive in a SATA2 motherboard with no problems - it just works (at the lower speeds of SATA2).

Re: SATA III\6gb/s Hard Drive in a SATA II controller

On my Wd black drive that is 6gb/s there was a jumper to limit it to 3gb/s i think. I would pull it out and doublecheck if i was'nt using it. Havnt run into any problems with it on a sata II motherboard though.
