Fortunately I do back up my data but it was enough for me to switch my RAID 0 array in my main PC from OCZ to Samsung. This was on the latest and greatest firmware. I will not be buying OCZ for work or home - to me reliability is very important and my own experience and that of others has persuaded me to stay away from sandforce SSDs of that generation and to be extremely wary of any new OCZ product.

To be fair, my Intel Gen 2 had firmware issues originally but these were resolved and since then it and my two kingston SSDs (rebadged intels) haven't caused a single issue since. The one OCZ drive I have left is a constant source of worry frankly.

    Re: Which ssd?

OCZ weren't the only brand to suffer, corsair had problems with their sandforce controllers causing MULTIPLE crashes and problems across the models. Only after firware updates did this solve this... to an extent

    Re: Which ssd?

Yup, that's why I said i'd stay away from that controller. OCZ haven't handled it as well as they could and their support can be pretty horrible. Fortunately i'd bought from Amazon and that makes RMA very easy. Very happy with the two Sammy 830s in RAID 0 - i'd literally sit down at the PC and think "hope it boots this time" with the OCZ drives!

    This is an important point.
    What would you rather have?
£10 more in your pocket for a 128GB drive but the substantial risk you'll be restoring from backup
£10 less and a just as speedy system.

£10 is less than 3 pints. I bet most users here wouldn't think twice about ordering a few pints when they are at the bar!

Exactly my thinking except its more than a tenner with the Sammie pricing. £146 on Scan for the notebook version 256Gb and £169 on a Vertex 3. Cant be ignored really at that sort of price.
