    Best 240/256 GB SSD?

I'm trying to understand which is the best option between the following ssd's for the above capacity as I would like to use one as a boot drive for my new build.

    OCZ Vertex 4
    Intel 520
    Crucial M4
    Samsung 820

Realiability and compatibility come first in my book...performance is 2nd. With that being said I notice the intel and the ocz offer a 5 year warranty...does this have to say anything about the durability of these drives or is it pure marketing?

I'd appreciate your opinions on the above brands/models

I would go for Crucial M4 or the Samsung 830 256GB if looking for Realiability.

    Re: Best 240/256 GB SSD?

General consensus is that the M4 drives are top of the tree for reliability. I read up quite a few SSD reviews in the couple of weeks before my new build.

Although I never read anything on the Intel drives.

    Crucial M4. 256GB going for £178, can't beat that.

Intel drives are another tier, when it comes to reliability. With an Intel drive, "this might fail" should never need to cross your mind. Not so for the others, especially OCZ

Intel SSD 520 are more expensive, compared with the M4.

Crucial M4 - reliable, fast, and not worrying about Sandforce compression and in some cases, serious reliability issues.

If you wanted something Sandforce based, it would have to be the Intel: http://www.anandtech.com/show/5508/i...y-to-sandforce as Directhex points out above.

Personal Experience: Intel totally reliable and no hassle on 4 known to me all voer 1 year old. £100 for 80gb

Even cheaper on today only at scan, just under £87 for 128gb or £177 for 256gb. Thinking of taking the plunge myself!

    Re: Best 240/256 GB SSD?

M4 every time. Before it would've been Intel, but now that they're farming out aspects to SandForce it's a totally different situation - previous experience doesn't count for a lot. They're probably still very good though.
