So I bought a 1 TB Hitachi external HDD nearly two weeks ago and today is the first chance I've had to test it out. When I plugged it in it immediately started making weird beeping/clicking/whistling sounds and my computer didn't even recognise it when I plugged it into the USB.
I've never had an external drive before so I don't know what sounds they're meant to make when switched on. But with my computer not recognising it I suspect it is broke.

Just going to get a refund. Saw it advertised on HUKD and someone else who bought one had it dead out the box.
Is it showing up in disk management? perhaps its not working because it needs a partition putting on it before it will be designated a drive letter.
Do external drives come pre-partitioned? I cant remember its been too longinternal obviously don't but that's not quite the same.
