If I got a USB3.0 external hub multi-card reader and USB expansion device would I take a performance hit over one installed within the case? Presumably so if it runs off just one USB port?
Thinking of something to connect one or two external HDD and an SD card to simultaneously (for backing up). Having the hub on the desk would be much easier access than bending over under the desk to plug everything in all the time.
Any advice/product suggestions greatly appreciated.

Doesn't it depend on the port on the mobo?
If you have a USB 3.0 linking into a USB 2.0 port then surely it will slow it down?
no i have a usb3 port to run it from. Just wondering though if powering a whole hub unit from a single USB3 port = reduced performance vs an internal dock run direct from the motherboard headers
