Seagate vs WD

All kind of HDD failed for me over the years. 95% due to transit issues (arrived DOA or with shed-loads of bad sectors and screaming SMART) & user misbehaving (apparently because you and inept in a game, it is the laptops fault and it deserves to fly across the room).

Most of them were Seagate but could be because Seagate was and is the cheapest HDD (even only with 12 months of warranty) so I probably bought mostly Seagate. I usually prefer non-Seagate and non-WD but if I have to choose I rather go for 24/7 units.

From NASes at work and at customer sites we are replacing all Seagates purchased in the last 2 years as they are dying, developing huge numbers of bad sectors or just timing out.

WDs from the same time period are not developing issues.

As things stand, I could not recommend Seagate for anything but storing a few films on temporarily.
