Cool Which SSD should i go for?

I am building a new PC with i7 3770K, Z77 Mobo, 8G DDR3 2666MHz RAM, GTX 680, HX1050 PSU, I have little knowledge about SSD and I am confucing about which SSD I should choose to buy? Is it worthy to get two of the SSD drives below and put them under Raid 0?

    1. Samsung 840 Pro 256GB £191

Samsung 830 256Gb...£147.50 at Scan (today only offers)

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/256gb...-write-400mb-s

The performance difference between this and the 840 Pro isn't worth the price difference.

Or indeed the 840 for just £134.39

I'd also consider changing some of your other components.

Spending extra on 2666mhz RAM is really going to make very little difference, the benefits are slight, the costs are high and there are drawbacks as well.
The GTX 680 is again very expensive and arguably not as fast as a cheaper 7970.
    You certainly don't need a 1050W PSU.

You seem to spending money just for the sake of it.

    Thanks, @cptwhite_uk, @Willzzz.
I noticed the 840 has very low write speed, I decided to go for the Samsung 830 since it's much cheaper than 840 Pro.

    Thanks for your advise !
    1. should I go for the Corsair 8G 2400MHz RAM? it's around £25 cheaper.
    What are the drawbacks ?
    2. Hm...I got a Gainward Phantom GTX 680 last OCT, soz it's too late. but The 680 is so quite, I am happy about it.

    3. Corsair HX series PSU gives a set of FREE Corsair sleeve Cables which worths about £45, although it's only in black colour.
    The HX850 is £129 and the HX1050 is £158, should i save this £30?

    Thanks again Willzzz.

Re: Which SSD should i go for?

You'd be surprised how little the apparently low write speed matters in real world testing:

That's not to say that the 830 doesn't have some advantages over the 840, but it's swings and roundabouts. Ultimately they both provide fast speeds and reliable performance, it's just one is cheaper than the other

Re: Which SSD should i go for?

Drawbacks of 2666 ram include, high voltage, large heatspreaders, slower timings, can be tricky to configure, but mainly price

Even an HX650 would be perfectly adequate for a single 680, hell it could probably handle SLI 680 at a push.

Re: Which SSD should i go for?

I think the main advantage the 830 has over the 840 (non pro) is that it uses better more durable NAND, but chances are that you will buy a new SSD before either fails. 840 is much more energy efficient making it batter for laptops. Personally I would still go for the 830 over 840 for desktop.
840 Pro is the best SSD right now. One that I would want to get but probably wont due to the higer price (rather spend extra and get a Crucial M4 512gb for £280). 840 Pro does come with 5 years warranty instead of 3.
Also dont think its worth getting two for raid 0. You proabbly only notice the difference in benchmarks.

    Thanks @eyezpy,
You just reminded me 840 Pro has 2 yrs longer warranty period than 830......Ebuyer selling 840 pro for £185, and 185 - 148 = £37 more and i can have the best Desktop SSD plus 2 yrs more warranty ...... i am confused....

Re: Which SSD should i go for?

If it was down to 840 and 840 Pro, I would still be waiting for the Amazon deal to come back. 256gb 840 for ~£110. I like my deals! (cheapskate? lol).
But at the prices you mentioned above I would go for 840 Pro too, but I think you can get the 840 for less (£129 from dabs).

Re: Which SSD should i go for?

the 840 uses TLC nand and the warranty is shorter than the MLC nand equipped 830 and 840 PRO

ram wise , you wont notice any difference outside of benchmarks between good low lat 1600 kit to the uber expensive stuff

so my own choice would be something like

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/8gb-(...0-9-27-xmp-15v

    edit:

anand did a review of ram vs speed:

Thanks @eyezpy, I am still waiting for the stock of Corsair HX Series PSU at scan, by the mean time, i will think about go for the 840 or 840 pro. £55 is a big money to save.

Thanks @HalloweenJack, I think i might go for the Corsair Vengeance Performance Series, giving up high MHz but having larger Capacity of 16GB for VMwares.

I might go for this one.
