    iPad 3...worth the wait?

As we all know the iPad 2 and its specs & features with iOS5. the iPad 3 is just rumours & speculations at the moment but it looks like it will be more of an improvement on the screen resolution, processor power and battery life.

sounding silly....is the iPad 3 worth the wait?

If coming from an Android user and someone who just wants a more easier/smoother/friendlier/simplier OS and interface and for someone who is a first-time iPad buyer would you buy an iPad 2 or just wait for the iPad 3?

    Please advice.

    Thanks.

Wait? Its quite costly so i'd be peeved to buy an iPad 2 and the third one to be rolled out in the next few weeks.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."

Existing ipads won't suddenly stop being capable of using the millions of apps already out there.

A year ago I'd have jumped at a higher res screen, but same physical size,
    now I'd just prefer a 7" version.

As my 7" "Ainol Elf" android tablet gets more use than the ipad1...

When the iPad 3 probably has the same price bracket as the iPad 2, waiting a few weeks seems like a sensible option, regardless of if previous iPads can run all the apps.

Also I would wait as the rumours going round make it sound rather promising, faster cpu and gpu, better screen resolution, almost 3x from what I have read.

    Re: iPad 3...worth the wait?

I have an iPad2 and I will be trading it up for an iPad3 when it lands, no question about it and for one reason alone; the screen resolution. It was the one thing I was mildly disappointed with on the iPad2 (Other than the whole irritatingly fenced Apple 'experience', but that's another thread)

As a photographer I want a device to display pictures on the move and the Retina display fits the bill nicely.

But they might force a massive re-sizing on anything using the default photo viewer, and if you use a 3rd party one, then you can't share the photos between 3rd party apps....

Its only any good as a photo frame

    Re: iPad 3...worth the wait?

If you're set on an iPad, then definitely wait for a few weeks until the next iPad is out. Personally, I'm waiting for Windows 8 tablets at the end of the year.

I find that quite hard to do, because I don't think the iPad 2 is worth the money, and I doubt the 3 will be either cheaper or better value for money. But "value" is a very subjective thing, dependent on all sorts of factors, like what you want it for, how much you'd use it for that, and of course, how much disposable income you have. And your mileage may well vary from mine.

If you've decided you want and are prepared to buy an iPad, and the only decision is to buy now, or wait, then I think, personally, I'd wait .... unless you spot a very good deal on an iPad 2. Why? If you've the need for a iPad, or even just a big enough desire to buy one, are you still going to be happy with a 2 once the 3 is out, knowing that if you'd waited a bit, you could have had a 3?

In other words, how susceptible to upgraditis are you?

If you'll be happy with a 2, wait until you start to see deals on the 2 prior to the 3's launch (if, indeed, any such deals are forthcoming, and I wouldn't expect too much discounting) and then get a 2. If not, wait and get a 3.

    Re: iPad 3...worth the wait?

I know. i do apologise if (again) i "speculate". as these independent/3rd-party (but very dependable) websites say such specs are this & that then that is just what is it...rumours and specualtions. but these rumours are so strong that you start to like them. but, do i need an all-powerful iPad 3?

You see I will be using the iPad 2 as something of an "extension" of my PC...to check my Twitter & Facebook, email (and viewing/attaching various files), viewing (and editing) photos, viewing .pdf files, listening to music, playing games (specially those fighting games which are not available on the Android Market), the usual news, wikipedia, weather, Youtube, apps, downloading wallpapers and being able to put them on my homescreen, watching movies and that's it. nothing too fancy. nothing too complicated. the most "advanced" task that i will probably be doing is editing photos, creating/mixing music (like those DJ apps) or printing a train or plane ticket from my iPad. and maybe doing them all at the same time via multitasking.

If this is the sort of thing i will be doing..do i REALLY need the iPad 3?

One worry is that I just wish that Apple doesn't forget about the iPad 2 and continue releasing those all-important and vital software updates (like general performance, battery life, new OS features, etc.) that's all.

    Re: iPad 3...worth the wait?

I feel updates are very important. i feel that they should be more often. and that companies shouldn't forget about their older/previous-gen devices.

And when i mean photo viewing and editing i meant saving (or copying) a photo from the internet (to be used as a wallpaper), uploading a photo from an SDcard adaptor and editing them like cropping, changing the sharpness or background effects, etc. and then uploading it to facebook, twitter or attaching it to my email. that's all. nothing too fancy.
