Re: Backing up N5200 to external USB drive
tar -cf - -C /path/to/source . | tar -xpf - -C /path/to/backup/
should handle that too, doing about the same, what cp -pRP would do, but not -u. -u in cp or rsync are quite comfortable, but not absolutely a must, because with a single operation, the old files could be deleted prior to save a new backup. There, data transfer of course is much higher. rsync will be faster with every run it takes. In -a it copies the files, what takes pretty long compared to others, but still is ok, considering that every information is kept, as time and ownership stamps. Once copied, additional -u only copies the delta and this is fast and will be even faster next time rsync is used. --delete slows down the transfer rate a bit again, but can be really desired. rsync could transfer links as links (they maybe useles in the new place) and it can fellow links and copy their contents and this is matter of the right decission by the user. I would prefere rsync where available and have good experience with that. For me, it is the forgotten very best file copy, sync and transfer tool at all. |

- install sysuser - install ssh - install rsync - login via SSH (from windoof: Putty) - type the line Omega suggested - go take a nap or two. I can't think of more help regarding this subject. And if you want a solution, create one! It's not Thecus' responsibility, as they did not advertise this functionality. |

Hardware mods:
# they void your warranty # they may seem to work, but kill your machine later on # they are mostly unneeded, because the engineers who built a machine knew what they were doing... |
