Migrate RAID - Can't detect new drive
Hi,
I have an N5200 with 3 500gb western digital WD5000YS drives in a RAID5 configuration. I'm trying to add a fourth drive to the raid without losing the existing data. I pulled out one of the empty trays, tray #1, and dropped in the new drive (no screws) and closed the tray. Even after rebooting, it does not appear to be detecting the new drive, since the green/blue lights for that slot are greyed out. I tried putting it in the other empty slot as well, and rebooted three times, with no results. In the web interface, under Storage > RAID > Config the status for the slot with the new drive is "N/A" and the checkboxes are greyed out. The new drive is the same model as the old ones. Thanks Jack |

Re: Migrate RAID - Can't detect new drive
Nevermind, it was because the disks were not mounted properly with screws. After migrating, I have a new problem, but I'll start a new thread. Thanks.

Re: Migrate RAID - Can't detect new drive
Hi, I have just purchased a N299 today, I have also purchased a brand new seagate 500gig hdd. When I install the hdd into the N299, I boot it up, the light goes blue, then after a minute, the orange/red light starts flashing for a bit and making a beep beep beep beep sound, and then it sounds like it tries to turn off, but the blue power light and fan are still running.
I check the web interface and click storage, and it has NA for both drives. So it seems like it is not detecting my brand new sataII hdd. I then tried removing the hdd, and starting the unit up with nothing in it, it did exactly the same thing as if the drive was plugged in. Can someone please try and help me get this working, I haven't exhausted all options as of yet, tomorrow I will test the brand new drive in my PC to see if that works, and also try a HDD from my PC in the N299 to try and locate where the problem lies Also, just incase, does this NAS require 2 hdd, or can you only install one until you buy another later on. Any help will be greatly appreciated. |
