N299 cant detect my Hdd
Hi, I have just purchased a N299 today, I have also purchased a brand new seagate 500gig hdd. When I install the hdd into the N299, I boot it up, the light goes blue, then after a minute, the orange/red light starts flashing for a bit and making a beep beep beep beep sound, and then it sounds like it tries to turn off, but the blue power light and fan are still running.
I check the web interface and click storage, and it has NA for both drives. So it seems like it is not detecting my brand new sataII hdd. I then tried removing the hdd, and starting the unit up with nothing in it, it did exactly the same thing as if the drive was plugged in. Can someone please try and help me get this working, I haven't exhausted all options as of yet, tomorrow I will test the brand new drive in my PC to see if that works, and also try a HDD from my PC in the N299 to try and locate where the problem lies Also, just incase, does this NAS require 2 hdd, or can you only install one until you buy another later on. Any help will be greatly appreciated. |

Re: N299 cant detect my Hdd
I can tell you N299 will work with just single drive.
I currently have a single 7200.9 500GB in mine. Not sure if you can add one later without deleting the original array though. But you can always use USB harddrive with the 299

Re: N299 cant detect my Hdd
Thanks for your input Arthurleung
Since my last post, I have tried my pc hdd in the N299 and still the same thing happens, it makes a continuous beep for about 10-15 seconds and stops. I have a feeling my N299 may be faulty

Re: N299 cant detect my Hdd
I had a similar problem. turns out I had purchased a hard drive that wasn't on it's compatability list. Check Thecus website for the list. If yours is on it, then it may be a faulty hard drive.

Re: N299 cant detect my Hdd
Hello,
I have exactly the same issue. Man, i even knew about all the issues these had before purchasing... argh. Brand new unit, outa the box, power Cat5, it boots then after a few seconds the error light blinking red. after another 30 seconds, it makes a beeping audible alarm. This is with NO disks in it. Inserting the Samsung drive that CAME with the unit... does the same thing. The unit is NOT discoverable with the Wizard Grr |

Re: N299 cant detect my Hdd
Anyone having probs, please make sure your HDD is on the list found on the thecus website.
I tried to post a link here, but it won't show it for some reason?? thecus.com > downloads > keyword search HDD |

Re: N299 cant detect my Hdd
Oh my godness !!
What are you for administrators ? It´s normal during bootup redlight is blinking and after bootup sequence beep is hearing. every thing is right. But don´t forget to create raid or a jbod stripe to let your system running well. |
