    ALLNET 6600 -> Thecus 5200 migration

    Hi all,
    I bought an ALLNET version of the Thecus 5200 and would like to use some of the add-ons available for the Thecus system. Unfortunately I can not install them in the actual ALLNET version of the software, so I am thinking of "migrating" the system towards the original version. Using the standard "Firmware Upgrade" option does not work.

    Has anyone done this befor?? If yes, can you please give some hints how to??

    Thanks in advance

    Stiefel,

    I just bought an ALL6600 too.
    I just assumed I could do everything with it that the Thecus 5200 community is doing.
    So far no luck though.

    I opened a support request with Allnet and am waiting for a response.

    If you have any additional news/info please do share.

    Have you guys had a look over at the Thecus User group?

    Thecus User Group - Home

    There is a way to load firmware using a USB memory stick, I don't know if it would be possible to force the N5200 firmware over the ALL6600 or not though.

    Re: ALLNET 6600 -> Thecus 5200 migration

    I called this morning and talked with a technician about the ALLNET6600.

    As you'd expect, I was told that Allnet doesn't support this nor could they give
    me any technical advise on migrating from an ALLNET6600 to a Thecus 5200.

    Yeah, I saw that post ("Installing firmware from USB-stick") in the Thecus forum

    thecususergroup.proboards106.com/ index.cgi ?board=n5200firmware&action=display&thread=1494

    but I wanted to hear directly from Allnet whether or not ther were any "official plans"
    to support user enhancements like what's being done in the Thecus community.

    The answer was no.

    Since I don't have an ALLNET, I can't try, but does the ALLNET have the module option on the web menu? If the module option is available, it should be fairly easy to port the modules over, the last time I looked at the GPL sources, they were the same with very small changes for branding only, but this has been a while.

    Re: ALLNET 6600 -> Thecus 5200 migration

    No the ALLNET doesn't have the modules menu option/feature, that's the point.
    We (or at least I) have an allnet and I would like to extend the devices functionality.

    I paid enough money for it, and I do understand that this is "not supported" by Allnet.
    Is anyone from ALLNETlistening?

    Anyway, I tried the USB stick/upgrade method but wasn't successful.
    1. Formatted a bootable USB stick with FAT32
    2. Copied the N5200_N5200PRO_FW_2.00.04.bin firmware to the stick.
    3. Copied "factory_test.sh" to the stick and modified the script to reference the 2.00.04 fw.
    4. powered off the 6600, plugged the stick into the rear-port, powered on the 6600
    5. the LED shows self testing, booting,...,HHHHHHHH,N5200FTST ---- 00:00, Start upgrade ...
    6. BUT the (topmost) LED didn't seem to blink for me and the LED strings mentioned in 5.
    started from the beginning and seemed to go into a constant loop.
    7. eventually I pulled the stick and power cycled the 6600
    8. when it came up my config was gone but I was still at FW level 2.00.07 (latest Allnet fw ).

    If anyone else has more insight into the ALLNET's difference over the 5200, please let me know.

    Re: ALLNET 6600 -> Thecus 5200 migration

    Hi amiller,

    i tried the same and ran into the same issue. Then I used the Thecus FW 1.00.07 (N5200upgrade.1.00.07.bin) as mentioned in the pdf file and ... it works. Afterwards I upgraded to the actual 2.00.04 and for the moment it seems to work fine.

    Hope this helps
