I couldn't find anything in the manual about port mapping in the 5200PRO when in 'IP Sharing Mode'. Are all the ports present on the WAN interface (those passed by the router) passed though to the LAN interface (WAN -> LAN)? How about in the other direction (LAN -> WAN)?

Re: Port Mapping in the 5200PRO
Hi transco,
There is no port mapping on the N5200PRO, all port mapping is to be done on your router/modem. What are you trying to do? And is it the BR you have? |

Re: Port Mapping in the 5200PRO
Well... When I posted this question I ordered and payed for a N5200BR, but what arrived was a N5200B. The folks at Eaegis tell me it is a faster box than the BR and has the advantage of port swapping, so I decided to keep it.
Currently I am only using the LAN port so port mapping isn't an issue. When I posted that question I was trying to see what my options were. I had hoped I could have plugged the BR directly into the cable modem on the WAN port, program it for one of the 5 static IP's, and use port mapping to control LAN access. Does the N5200x tunnel any ports to the LAN or is the WAN port used only for N5200 management? |

Re: Port Mapping in the 5200PRO
The N5200 can be managed from either the LAN or WAN port from someone who is on the LAN but only the WAN port from someone over the internet.
Using the WAN port to connect it to your network keeps the N5200 on the same IP range as the rest of your network but when connecting it to the LAN port it uses the IP range setup in the configuration inside the N5200. Thats how my BR version works. Last edited by martynhr; 24-03-2008 at 03:41 AM.. |

Re: Port Mapping in the 5200PRO
From what I've read the WAN port is only if you want to connect and access the N5200 to the outside world.
Firstly, the boxes are no difference in speed to each other it's just that one has a 4 port switch and the other can load balance, however, this has possibilities of slowing down transfer speeds according to some reviews. I'm presuming there is no restriction on ports from LAN to WAN and vise versa as its a switch configuration not a firewall. Why not just connect the N5200 to a router if you have one using it's WAN port and setup a static ip address either on the N5200 or on the router. That way you can turn off your N5200 while LAN users keep their access to the internet. If you need to turn it on it can be done using Wake on Lan remotely from any terminal. I hope this helps. |

Out of curiosity (and to increase my understanding) why did you go with the 'BR' instead of the 'B'? If I hang a 5 port unmanaged switch on my single LAN port, would I end up with the same thing you have? |
