    Unhappy thecus 5200 => disk:warning/raid:damaged

    hello everybody i'm french

    i've bought a thecus within disk, and i take five samsung 500 gb which are not formatted
    when thecus start, there is no problem but the status of two disk are display "warnings" and the building of the raid is impossible
    after the formating the web page notify me that the thecus "recovering" the five disk but after 3 or 4 % the thecus notify me ONLY ====> DAMAGED

    i don't understand why the message is display and how i resolve it

    i try to remove one of the disk and retry the building of the raid with the disk that are not in warning mode but its a failure and the third disk is written as "warning"

    i need help

    the five disk are not formatted by default and i have inserted it in the thecus without
    maybe i will format the disk in ext3 before the installation in the thecus ...

    i don't know ...

    thanks

    Theres no need to format the disks before inserting them, they will be new formatted anyway.

    As far as I have understood You have 5 brand new disks inserted in Your N5200 and You are trying to build a initial raid. Building a raid with disks which have "warning" or "error" as status is not a good idea. If You have the possibility then check the disks with status "warning" in Your PC. If they have warnings or errors then return them to Your dealer for an replacement. On the Samsung homepage there are utilities available to check the harddisks.

    i think that you are right
    i wil trying the samsung application for testing the five disk
    but i don't understand why the thecus show me "warning" only on two disk and after on an other ... the five disks are clean (i've bought it in the same market place)

    I test those disks and i say you what i see ...

    hmm, I remember one thread where a user had similar issues. He opened the N5200 and found that the backpanell was not fixed completly. After fixing it and putting all disks in again the issue was gone.

    I have a similar problem.
    A disk which is "warning" status can be used for raid construction ?

    Re: thecus 5200 => disk:warning/raid:damaged

    i've make some test with my thecus
    and finally i think that the disks witch are marked as damaged or warnings have some defect sector (pending sector)
    i've testing to format (low format) the disk to erradicate the error of sector
    after this, i put the disk in the thecus and the pending sector were Disappeared
    but when i'm try to construct the raid, the thecus retrun me an error (pending sector = 1)
    and the disk was dismissed.

    i've also try to repared the disks under windows XP by using the command chkdsk /r but without change.

    i'm tired

    i think that the thecus is not tolerant with the disk error

    WHY MY COMPUTER MAC (APPLE) HAVE TAKEN MY DISK SUCCESSFULLY (without tell me that there a problem of pending sector) ???????????

    I WANT TO KNOW !!!!!!!!!

    hmm, may be the Thecus is not as fault tolerant as Your XP System, but my experience is that You are able to work with a damaged disk with Windows and then suddenly everything is lost.
    I would recommend to return Your disks to Your dealer for a replacement or deal directly with Samsung for an RMA. Direct Samsung contact should be the 2nd choice.
    I had the same problem and received a new disk within 3 weeks. I#ve decided to buy a new one immediate after I recognized the problem and the returned new one is now my offline spare disk.
