    N5200BR Pro Hard Drive Question

    Hi....

I am considering purchasing an N5200BR PRO (diskless) and 5 x 1tb Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 drives.

Just wondering if anyone has used these drives with this unit?

Is there any reason to think these drives would not work?

Is there anything negative I should know about this combination before I buy?

    Thanx in advance.

    Chris Bradshaw.

Re: N5200BR Pro Hard Drive Question

I am considering the same ST31000340AS Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1TB
    Internal – 3.5in - SATA 3.5in - SATA 3GB/s - 32MB Cache - 7200RPM drives for a N5200R-pro

Does anyone have experience with this configuration?? Any recommendations?

Not sure about the 1TB drives but I have been running three of the 500Gig versions (LN20181 Seagate ST3500320AS Barracuda 7200.11) in my Thecus N5200BR Pro on RAID5 without a problems since January.

Re: N5200BR Pro Hard Drive Question

I have 1 ST31000340AS hard drive but my 5200 thinks there is something wrong with it but when i check it with my PC it says it is fine. I think the 1TB version has the same problem as the WD 1TB version with its "green" firmware - there is a warning in the Thecus 5200 HD compatiblity document about the WD 1TB but nothing about the ST31000340AS. I dont even think the ST31000340AS is listed in that doc

I don't know about the Seagate 1TB drives, but I have 2x1TB Hitachi drives (HDS721010KLA330) in a N5200BR Pro and am getting a third in a month or two. So far, I've had no problems in the 2 or 3 months I've had them.

Re: N5200BR Pro Hard Drive Question

I had exactly the same question and couldn't get a definitive answer. Questions to sellers on eBay all said that the Seagate drives should work, but no one would stick their neck out. Thecus support hadn't tested them yet. I know it's probably late for your decision, but I built my N5200BR Pro with 5 Seagate 1TB drives and it is absolutely wonderful. The N5200 performs fantastic with these drives!

I understand that there is one version of the Seagate 1TB drives that might have problems. Do an internet search to find out which one specifically, but I think that most of the problem drives are out of circulation. If you buy the drives now, it should be no problem.

Re: N5200BR Pro Hard Drive Question

I have been running with 5x1TB Hitachi for the past 6 months in RAID5. Currently using 90% of the available space. It is working perfectly. At the moment I am collecting WD 1TB drives (1 per month) and will add a second 5200B Pro. When that arrives will try out the stackable feature. I annot affort the new beastie yet and just hope I do not run out of space before then. BT Shop & Scan do a good price on the WD.

Re: N5200BR Pro Hard Drive Question

    I got my N5200BR-pro and put in 5 ST31000340AS Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1TB
    Internal – 3.5in - SATA 3.5in - SATA 3GB/s - 32MB Cache - 7200RPM drives. Pulled the jumper so they run at 3gb/s instead of 1.5gb/s

Configured for raid 5. 1 day of running, no problems yet.

Re: N5200BR Pro Hard Drive Question

yea, my bad - ignore my previous post. I used my Seagate 1TB drive as a 1 drive JBOD just to transfer files over to a 4 disk RAID 5 but before I could get the files moved over the drive DIED. So I had about 900 gigs on it and I have yet to find a tool to recover the data. I guess the sectors went bad, so... If you see a "WARNING" status on your drive - REPLACE IT!!!
