I am considering purchasing a NAS device and the Thecus N3200 looks the most suitable so far. However, I have some basic questions I need answering before I purchase.
I want to use the NAS for data storage but also for backup. If I were to install 2 or possibly 3 drives (either RAID or not - doesn't matter to me). If I removed one drive and put it in a fireproof safe for safety what would happen if in say 1 month's time I put the drive back in the NAS device? Could I get it to automatically copy the data from the current drive to the one from the safe? What would happen to the data if the NAS device failed? What would happen if I put one of the hard drives from the NAS device into a PC - what would I see? Would running RAID affect this? What is the speed difference between ESATA from PC to NAS and a standard direct connection of SATA hard drive in PC. How would data transfer be affected using ESATA? ![]() Thanks. |

Re: Thecus NAS device question
The N3200 doesn't have the backup option thecus => usb (or esata) drive but have the one button copy usb => thecus.
What would happen to the data if the NAS device failed? If your disk are in raid 1, you just have to put one of them into your linux pc to rescue your data. What would happen if I put one of the hard drives from the NAS device into a PC - what would I see? Would running RAID affect this? Some linux partition, content depend of the raid you previously choose. What is the speed difference between ESATA from PC to NAS and a standard direct connection of SATA hard drive in PC. How would data transfer be affected using ESATA? I don't exactly understand your question but I think the following link can help you : 59Hardware Spiken. |
