N5200PRO: 2 disks failing and system inaccessible
Last week I purchased a N5200PRO to replace my Windows 2003 file server and Windows 2000 backup server. The box is equipped with 5 x "Samsung SpinPoint F1 1TB" HDD's, which I configured as RAID 6. I updated the firmware from 2.00.04 to 2.00.08 and installed a few modules (RSYNC, SSHD, SYSUSER) to support backup of a remote Linux system. Then I migrated all my data (several hundreds of Gb) from the Windows 2003 file server and Windows 2000 backup server to the N5200PRO. All seemed well, so I started to reconfigure my workstations to no longer access the Windows servers but access the N5200PRO instead. I did the same for the remote Linus system. All still seemed well, so I even decided to purchase another N5200PRO to use as a backup unit (not delivered yet).
This morning I shut the N5200PRO down to move it to it's final location. When trying to bring the system back up again, the **** hit the fan. Two of the five harddisks show a steady glowing GREEN led and the N5200PRO beeps continuously. The user guide describes a steady glowing RED led and not GREEN, which makes it rather confusing to figure out what's going on. Because I configured the disks for RAID 6, which allows for two failing disks, I would expect the system to be completely operational, which is not the case. Although the systems appears to be up and running (I can ping it), I can't access the web interface with the browser and neither can I access the data shares. Can anyone tell me what those steady GREEN glowing leds mean or why I can't access the N5200PRO? |

In case you haven't tried, physically remove all the HDD's and reinsert firmly in case there's a loose connection after the relocation.

Re: N5200PRO: 2 disks failing and system inaccessible
Thanks for the reply. It was one of the first things I did, but it didn't solve the problem.
But even so, it wouldn't explain the steady glowing GREEN leds instead of RED and the fact that I can not access the system, although I configured it as RAID 6 and have 'only' two failing disks. That's what I really like someone to shed some light on. |
