    Using 2 N5200BR Pro's together

    Guys.

    Hi.........

I have a N5200BR Pro which is full with 700GB of music and video running 2 discs in Raid1.
I have purchased 3 more 750gb discs and after asking some questions it appears its better to back up my data before changing to Raid 5 with all 5 discs.

I have just purchased another N5200BR Pro for a friend and have added 5 discs in Raid 5 and all is well.

I want to connect the 2 together and transfer my data onto his machine, then I can update my machine and change it to Raid 5 without fear that I don't have a backup of my data.

He wants a copy of my videos and music so I leave the data on his machine and transfer mine back to mine when I have set up all 5 of my discs.

Question is how the hell do I do it? I can not get my computer to see both N5200's at the same time. Do I have to change the IP address of the one machine and where do I connect the cables?

Any help would be great please...

    Thanks Gareth

I have two on the same network and can see them both no trouble - they each need a separate different IP address - so change the address - also check they are both have the same network mask (e.g. 255.255.255.0). You can change the IP manually in setup, or tell it to obtain an IP address automatically if you have a router than allocates addresses. I set mine manually. Of course needs to be in the same range as the computer also.

The Thecus set-up utility can scan for a list of Thecus devices. If you can see them with this tool, but cannot browse them then its an ip setup issue.

I use network port 1 on the Thecus units - connected to a network switch.

I use second copy to synch all files between the two units.

    Works fine.

    Hi Garteh,
that depends very much of Your network.
If You have a switch or a Router with enough ports, then connect every box (including Your PC) to the switch/router. Use the WAN port of the N5200 and let the IP Adresses be assigned by Your DHCP Server or give every N5200 another IP Adress, which has to be within Your network.
If You don't have the above possibility then You might want to use the build in Switch of the N5200.
Connect one N5200 with the WAN port to Your Router, connect the other N5200 with the WAN port to a LAN port of the first N5200, connect Your PC to a LAN port of the first N5200. Assign manually or use DHCP for the IP adresses.
Copying Data from one to the other will work with every copysoftware which runs on Your PC - however, every file transferred from one N5200 to the other N5200 is first read into Your PC and then written from the PC to the other N5200.
If You have some basic linux knowledge, then a direct transfer is possible - i.e. with the module RSYNC installed on both N5200 You are able to make a direct copy - or You use the build in nsync functionality and then do a manual moving around of the copied files using the linux console (modules SSHD and SYSUSER are needed).
