Western Digital WD15EADS cant enable TLER?

Im preparing my disks for a Thecus N7700.

Bought the Western Digital WD15EADS because it seems to be a great disk and the 1TB version have worked great for me in my N5200.

BUT i dont seem to be able to enable TLER on my new disks? Says "Unable to set Read TLER time" and the same for write when i try to enable TLER with WDTLER I found on the internet.

If Im not wrong its recommended that you enable this option on this disks if you run them in a raid?

Re: Western Digital WD15EADS cant enable TLER?

I haven't had any trouble enabling TLER on recent WD15EADS (sep. 2009).
How did you try the procedure?

Enabling TLER is highly recommended, otherwise there's a risk of disks dropping out of your array due to the Thecus considering the disk as offline when it's recovering from an error for a long time (>8sec I think). The risk increases with higher load, number of disks and amount of data on the disks.

Im running TLER-ON.bat from a usb drive Ive booted to, no other disks are connected to my system only the WD disk.

Feel free to email med the program you use if theres some kind of version differens or something.

The CD didnt help, same problem.

The program cant even read the TLER setting, could this be something new from WD so they removed TLER or something?

If one or more WD disks get dropped out is it easy to fix?

How did you connect your disk(s)?
The tool only works if the WD disk is connected to a sata controller on the motherboard of a PC. AFAIK using usb or esata boxes for the procedure doesn't work.

Re: Western Digital WD15EADS cant enable TLER?

Found some information about this problem, seems like they removed this option in newer harddrives.

Cant thecus give us a option to set the timeout?

Should I use this harddrives anyway?

Jeez thanks I didn't know that. Guess I was lucky to snag a few of the last batch that supports TLER.

Whether or not to use the drives is up to you. If you back up your critical data regularly I guess you could take the risk.

Re: Western Digital WD15EADS cant enable TLER?

If you ask around at ebay vendors you can still find WD15EADS-00P8B0 manufactured in Sep. or early Oct. i.e. the ones with 3 platters and changeable TLER / IDLE3 settings but you have to be quick
