N7700 - Folder Permissions

I can connect using my account on the Thecus, however when I connect using OSX I get Permission denied for some of the sub folders.

Any ideas how to recursively force permissions through the folder listings?

Happens on an AFP mount and also a SMB connection/protocol

Can you not connect with some SCP client and apply permissions recursively? I'd use WinSCP from a Windows box, apparently it plays nicely under WINE.
