    Question 4k 120hz 50" for under a grand?

    http://www.engadget.com/2013/04/12/s...-inch-4k-1300/

A sudden lurch downwards in price seems surprising. Never heard of Seiki...

If it's already availabe Stateside, must be around in China, Japan and S. Korea I would've thought... When will UK get it? Not this year I fancy...

Well it seems like by the time I get round to getting a new TV, it really will be a 4K set.

    Good stuff

Hmm, 120hz 8 megapixel gaming on a 50" screen. Might work...

Seiki 50-inch 4K TV on sale for $1,299, sounds like a steal but an alarm keeps going off in my head when i think China, unknown company with
unknown standards, ultra hd tv price drop by 10,000 because of Sony.

One of the guys at PCPER took a punt on one of those back in April, and kindly did an impromptu but lengthy video review.

wow.......amazing for the price.....was expecting more fps from those x2 gtx680s tbh especially the 4gb versions......the flickering they mentioned was a bit concerning but at around £800 i could live with that.

So with that resolution what would uk sky HD look like on a 4k tv.....and when will the uk get 4k content to watch?

Well, a 4K screen has more pixels than two 30" 1600p screens, so you aren't going to have a lot of wiggle room with a pair of 680s; even with 90% SLI scaling.

Sky HD is still 720p isn't it? I don't imagine it'll look all that great.

    Re: 4k 120hz 50" for under a grand?

I was watching some football on a 4K screen in John Lewis a few weeks ago, and it really was incredible.

I'm not sure I'd value it much for films, as the detail in the background is unlikely to benefit much from being shown in 4x the resolution, but for the football it was great because the detail that's usually missed, i.e. facial expressions were actually caught on the 4K - it actually looked like you were watching it for real.

The other problem is that it was one friendly tournament, played in Japan, that was filmed in 4K as an experiment more than anything else. The chance of watching live sports on 4K any time soon seems remote.

I'd be far more interested in a 4K monitor than a 4K TV. And, from what I gather, the Seiki doesn't look great when it has to upscale 1080p content. So if 75% of my TV usage is 480p, and 15% 720p and 10% 1080p, the entire thing will look dreadful on the Seiki. So yeah, not convinced there's much point right now.

If it has moved to 1080p, great. However, I thought it was 720p/1080i - not so great.

Either way, Jim makes an excellent point about upscaling 1080p on that screen.

    Unhappy Re: 4k 120hz 50" for under a grand?

Also, IIRC the max res is available at only 30hz :-(

I'd deffo wait for 2nd gen, HDMI 2.0 and better refresh. Maybe more 4k content around then too... BBC and NHK (Japan) often co-operate on doing super hi-def experiments. World Cup and Wimbledon next year might see more uptake...?
