    Question HDMI 1.4a question

I want to connect my 42" LCD TV to my PC which are just under 7m away from each other. Will I encounter any problems using a HDMI 1.4a cable over such a distance in terms of losing picture or sound quality etc

    Thanks in advance!

Haha, I ain't very reassured! I have no choice but to test it really unless the PC or TV move closer to each other, consider the TV is wall mounted....lol

    Re: HDMI 1.4a question

Well the HDMI cable spec doesn't have a defined maximum cable length. What is does to is define the signal integrity and impedance over the length of the cable.

So as long as the cable can handle a 340 MHz signal and has an impedance of 100 ohm over the 7 meters then you will be good to go.

If it is long enough and has a HDMI logo you will be fine. This doesn't mean it has to be expensive or exotic. I'm sure I've had a couple of 10m cables that worked just fine and were in the order of £1/meter.

edit You will probably need 10m, Once you get pver 2m, they tend to be 3m, 5m, 10m, (possibly) 15m, then 20m and up. I have seen a 30m cable.

Amazon - 10m HDMI cable, Prime Eligible Even if you don't have a Prime account, it's a useful filter to take out a lot of the chaff and then you know you can also get it on free postage as Amazon are fulfilling the order.

I have some blue rigger cables which seem good to me.

    25 ft is about 7.5m I think.

    Re: HDMI 1.4a question

If it has an HDMI logo on it, it's fine.

And if it's not fine, it's not "loss of picture quality" it's "loss of picture", so you'll notice

    Re: HDMI 1.4a question

Cheers guys. I am building a new PC within the next month or so, and it might end up moving somewhere differently in my room. Once this is built however I will measure with a piece of string to make sure.
