Loving it so far and like you don't care about Smart or 3D - Got Consoles/Chromecast/Pi for all that jazz.

Its currently back up at £500 but I've seen it drop down twice in the last month.
I did have that on my shortlist but I took it off for some reason I can't remember, probably some horror story I saw in a review. How's the refresh rate on it? Do you notice any smearing/ghosting? If it drops again in the next week I think I'd have to bite on that one.

I still like the look of the LG LCDs too, if I was buying on looks alone I think it'd be my first choice, but the response time on them is a bit high and there were a couple of picture quality issues in some of the in-depth reviews. I doubt I'd notice them though, my eyes aren't the best. Going to try and get demos of some of these 4-5 screens this week before I choose. It's a stressful situation

As i only use mine for Netflix and gaming I also looked around but found generally overall good reviews for the set. No Smart, Not the greatest sound and the fact its a plasma so no good in direct light (it is a very shiny screen) which all were none issues for me. In gaming I've not noticed any ghosting issues at all but haven't given the screen enough of my time to really put it to test... too busy on BF4 on PC

I just couldn't say no at £380 and I'm very happy with the purchase.

    Re: New TV Time

Well I finally made a choice, and it was a slightly more expensive one than I was planning on.

I was in Currys at the weekend - just to have a look at some in-the-flesh screens. Saw a 50" Bravia on offer for £800, the 8 series, not the new 9. It was on it's own in a corner and the picture looked very good.

Went online and reserved the £1250 55" version (KDL55W805) with 10% Quidco cashback.

But I didn't get it. I read through reviews and, apart from the fantastic response times, there were lots of image quality/colour issues that I knew would annoy me in time. It was a mediocre set at best. The 9 series appears to fix everything, but was another £500 for the upgrade. I'd probably have gone for a Bravia 9 series if I had the funds.

I flicked back through my shortlist and read some in-depth reviews again and decided that I had my heart set on a Panasonic plasma all along, so ordered a TX-P50GT60B in at Richer Sounds. £1200 but with a 5 year guarantee (and I've seen it a bit cheaper elsewhere so should get the price match as well). Picking her up on Friday

Yes, it's "Smart" and "3D", neither of which I particularly wanted, but there wasn't really anything that performed anywhere near as well at the size I wanted, so they are just bonus features. The mrs actually got quite excited at the thought of watching some 3D films, and it's Active rather than Passive (full rather than half res 3D), so should be a nice get out of jail free card.

    Re: New TV Time

Congratulations! So now you can watch the Dr Who special in 3D in a couple of weeks, good timing

Thought I was going to have to watch in 2D, but found a satellite connector on the back of my new LG tv. Weird, but it seems it isn't Freesat certified so they don't advertise the feature. Tried plugging in and sure enough, I don't get a proper EPG but it did find BBC1 HD

Can't have too many toys on a TV IMO, so well done.

Thanks Not sure how I'm going to last 4 and a half days before getting it though. No TV license for Dr Who so might wait for it on BluRay and watch it in 2D at my dads, but yes should be good.

Does Freesat use different satellites to Sky? I can't get Sky at my house as there's no line of sight to their satellite(s).

Same cluster of satellites, though I think they might be on different actual birds. The dish points the same way though, sorry to say

Thought as much, the neighbours have a motorised dish but it always points in exactly the same direction as the sky dishes do. Annoying thing is mine is the only house on the street with no line of sight, thanks to a huge tree up the hill that has a protection order on it.

Went and got the TV yesterday, they teased me by phoning and saying it had come in early. It's wonderful.

Glad you liked it. May the novelty never wear off

Fired up Wipeout HD on the PS3 last night. The PS3 said it had detected a 3D display, would I like to use it? Well Duh! Fired up the surround amp as well, excellent fun.
