iPlayer now available for Windows Phone - Sort of!

Both WP7.5 and WP8 are supported. It's more of a short cut than an app, that can be assigned to a live tile.. still, the BBC are at least acknowledging Windows Phone's existence now.

Edit: Looks like the launch date is yet to be confirmed, so its not available just yet.

It seems like the BBC does not really want to support Windows phone though. There was an article on wpcentral.

I think the BBC REALLY don't want to support Win Phone.

And I don't really blame them, its a real hassle to develop for Win Phone sometimes...

You a developer Phaz0r18? If so, whats the difference between developing for WP, Android & iOS?

The BBC iPlayer is now available for windows phones(WP8). I'm installing on to my Lumia 620 as I type this!

I've been using it since it came out. It's pretty good: runs in the background, transport pops up with a tap of the volume controls if you want to quickly pause radio or something, but to be honest I'd rather use the real site. Its navigation is a bit fiddly - sometimes I "Back" out of the entire app when trying to cycle through pages, and the categorisation doesn't seem to follow the same system as in the site. You'll often see that the numbers in the subgenres doesn't add up to remotely the same number listed for the parent genre, and trying to check through a genre with 1000 items for the thing you want can take a long time.

There's no HD option for video even over wifi, but it's perfectly watchable in SD.

Still, very glad to have it, and I'm sure it'll gradually improve over time.
