Will this phone work in UK

I'm in USA at the moment and I was thinking about buying a Nokia Lumia 920 as shown in this link, I just wanted to confirm if this phone will work ok in the UK, O2/Tesco Mobile network?

I thought it would be better to ask so I can be safe not sorry.

Re: Will this phone work in UK

Probably... GSM refers to the signalling and control protocols (essentially) but the US use 850MHz and 1900MHz frequency bands while Europe uses 900/1800 MHz. The US also use protocols other than GSM. (see the links below))

So if you buy, you need to make sure it is a GSM phone, and you need to ensure it is a dual band model (it probably is, but you need to check - it is a long way to go to return it)

You also need to ensure that it is not locked to a particular carriers SIM card.

Don't forget that the charger may have a US plug connector on it, although it may be supplied with an adaptor. Voltage shouldn't be a problem, most of the chargers will operate on both 115 and 230 volts, but again wise to check before you buy.

Re: Will this phone work in UK

I have one, its a great phone, currently my favourite.

The price reduction is no doubt due to the 1020. One of the major buying points for the 920 is the camera, its low light stills and video are top notch for a phone. However the 1020 simply blows it out of the water (and a lot of point and click cameras too).

If you are buying it for the camera, just keep the 1020 in mind. However the 920 is still really, very good. Check out this footage I shot in a bustling Vietnamese night market:

It hasn't been stabilised in software, just edited.

Re: Will this phone work in UK

It's the spec at the price that I feel make this phone a good option for me. Plus no iTunes or manufacturers adding their own skins and proprietary features.

The charger won't be an issue as I want to get the wireless charger for it or to charge it by connecting it to my PC.

Cool. How are you finding the Nokia maps?
