Windows 7 crashes while watching flash videos e.g. youtube

When i try to watch any flash videos, especially the ones on you tube, my whole computer just freezes after a few minutes of watching it. I have to restart my whole computer to solve the problem.

I have tried watching the videos on firefox, IE and chrome and it happens on all browsers.

From my internet research, I have found it could potentially be a flash related problem. It seems to affect computers with the 64bit versions.

Has anyone else with windows 7 64bit have this same problem? any luck in resolving it?

First step would be to reinstall flash. First uninstall it from remove programs under control panel then go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and install it again.

Also are you on the latest graphics and chipset drivers?

I have already tried reinstalling flash. Even use the adobe uninstaller to remove it before hand but no luck.

I don't have the latest drivers for my graphics card so i will try that.

The new drivers for my Radeon 4870 dated 17th February 2010 seemed to have fixed it. I watched a few vids and no crashes so far.

Strange as i thought tried this before with another update and didnt work.

    Thanks guys

The driver update never solved the problem in the end. Still crashing!

I will be receiving another graphics card soon so i will try that one out and try to at least eliminate that it's not a hardware issue. But i suspect it isn't as it only crashes watching flash videos.

    Any suggestions welcome!

There have been some problems with the 10.2 drivers reported, but it's pretty rare for the 4xxx series. the 10.3 is supposed to fix it however.

    Or possibly Atari.

Have you solved this problem? I recently got a new PC with Windows 7 64bit. The screen would black out with a buzzing sound from the speakers after several minutes of watching online videos (flash content) in full screen. A few times it happened I would get the blue screen. The last time I got a blue screen I couldn't startup Windows anymore, unless I disable my Wireless Card from Safe Mode. I gave up and I downgraded to Vista.

I got a different issue with Vista while watching online videos in full screen. The video will just freeze, but audio is uninterrupted, and you can still get out of the Full Screen mode and everything is back to normal, you go back to full screen and it will freeze again after a while. I read somewhere that it's because upon installation of Adobe Flash, hardware acceleration is ON by default. You can change this by right clicking on the video, click settings, and uncheck that option. So far it's working like a charm, no frozen full screen videos.

I'm wondering if it's the same issue with Windows 7, except that it reacts differently. So last night I reinstalled Windows 7 on a separate partition and tried watching online again. So far, no problems. I'm probably going to observe it for at least a week before deciding if I want to go back to Windows 7 permanently or not.

Try it and let me know as well.

    Thanks.

I haven't solved the problem yet, but i will try turning off the hardware acceleration and see how it goes. Wish me luck! will report on what happens.

I have already tested turning hardware acceleration off and it doesn't work for me. Good news though is that new drivers for my graphics car (radeon 4870) have come out so i will give that a go.

Strange, Firefox hasn't crashed for... erm... I can't remember, whether using Youtube or doing anything else.

Moosely, are you using the hardware accelerated Flash beta/RC or the standard one?

Flash for IE. Flash for other browsers. For each you can see the non-beta/RC on the right side.

I have turned the hardware accelaration off and it still crashes. I'm using version 10.0.42.34 which seems like a non beta version to me. Are you saying the beta version may have no issues?
