Norton Ghost can align an SSD,but can it do mine?

I'm in the market for a new SSD and the VAT back deal on the Samsungs tempts me.

I alreadu have an SSD but it's full so I'm going to get a bigger one. I could take this opportunity to reinstall Windows, but there's nothing really broken with it, so the fact that Samsung also give Norton Ghost makes it even more attractive.

NG claims that it can align the drive as it copies the OS from one t'other, but my question is; My old SSD is already unaligned. Can NG fix that and copy it to the new SSD aligned?

It's the partitions that are non-aligned. The data "sits" on top of these really (simplest way of explaining it)

If you make an aligned partition and then copy the data over to it, it stays aligned. User data and partition information are two separate things.

Ah OK, thanks. I thought it was a case of the data blocks and the partitions being alligned.

I got one of the samsung drives and i couldnt even get the version of norton ghost that came with it to recognise the SSD or my original hard drive that came with the laptop. I dont think its the full version that includes GPT... just worth considering.

    It is worth considering thanks.

I must admit I leaning towards a complete reinstall today. Tomorrow may be different.
