So it seems all the rumours you could upgrade from the previews are not true??

Thanks for this. I don't see why MS are not just putting MC in Win8 for free :-/ I mean... Win8 cant even play DVDs by default. What's up with that!

WMC is in use every day in our house, mainly as a PVR and in my opinion nothing rivals WMC in that respect.

Still waiting for mine to come through, seems they're being a bit slow on sending these out (I'll give it 24 hours). Hoping it isn't too much longer to wait!

Re: Windows Media Center, free with Win 8 Pro

To confirm, I too just got WMC for free after upgrading to Windows 8 Pro (£25). I had to wait a day or so for the product key from Microsoft. I quite like WMC although I'm currently having trouble with erroneous warning messages about not having enough HD space to record programs (apparently it's a known bug and programs will still record, the message can be avoided by running WMC as administrator - not great quality control from MS!) Are there any good alternative to WMC for Windows 8?

Re: Windows Media Center, free with Win 8 Pro

I use WMC but I haven't yet done the upgrade - was waiting for a: the time to do it and b: to see how others are getting on with it. 8 should make a nicer base for it (lower memory/resource requirements).

You have to fish Windows Media Centre out and pin it to your Desktop or pin to the Taskbar in Desktop.

Not really sure what the appeal of WMC is these days?

Re: Windows Media Center, free with Win 8 Pro

Cool thanks for the link - I havent got a copy of windows 8 yet but the key will be useful if i ever upgrade.

Been a long time user of wmc and the mediabrowser plugin (i just couldnt get along with xmbc)

Edit: "Your product key must be activated no later than January 31, 2013" - well that sucks
