Server 2012 R2 Public Preview out now!

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/serve...r-2012-r2.aspx

Have just finished installing a GUI, Core and Hyper-V server in Workstation, bed for now, but more tinkering tomorrow. Unless CoH2 grabs me instead (couldn't resist it at £24).

    Anyone else testing? Thoughts?

(and no, the Blue client preview is *not* out yet)

Wasn't that introduced in 2012? Pretty sure I recall it from my 2012 MCSA study.

EDIT: apparently not. Going to build a HV cluster tonight and see how that works out.

I'll take a look later, just can't get too excited about it as MS seem to be pushing the VM side of things and the feature list reads like a vmware catchup list...

The only thing that intrigued me was "VM v2" aka native non-legacy VMs.

Re: Server 2012 R2 Public Preview out now!

Anyone else having issues with disk and network performance on windows server 2012?

I'm still investigating what's the root cause, but it's a pile of crap compared to my other servers at this very moment. I have a lot of hang ups/lags, network transfer going down to 1-2MB/s :O

The OS is on an SSD...the raid is 4x2TB Raid5 (supermicro).

Anyone looking at this from a fault tolerance / recovery thing?

Desiging a system at the moment which would want to be able to shift instances around the globe, not cloud like, but between a fair few DCs. So far not much has been blogged about these new features that isn't sales materials.

    1. theres a part of me that wants to say thats a bad idea. however...

    2. if its small files, then abuse the netlogon share and you'll make life even easier for yourself.

Yeah, basically something I can get a suitable whatsit ISO rated secure 1/4 rack cab. Probably around EU, HKG, SYD, NY etc.

The RPO for the system is 0 seconds..... Hot-hot and all that, with the client only acknowleding something as sucsessful once there has been a concensus of superpeers agree. Until then it can be local authority confirmed, but not acknowledged without at more superpeers.

However, if all but 1 DC were to go down, I would need the ability to promote ASAFP a local DC to have two superpeers.

Fun hot-hot systems are what all the cool kids design now apparently. Just i'm not going to be using GPS and atomic clocks like google.
