Permanently disabling Windows customised folder views for MTP devices

You cannot imagine how off this makes me. I want to completely disable the customised folder views in W7. I don't ever want W7 to assume I want to see my MP3 listing with all those extra columns, nor default directories with pictures in to thumbnail views.

Now I know you can prevent it to a certain extent by going into the Customise tab in folder view. But that isn't available for root drives and for media devices such as my phone (above screenshot).

All I ever want is a detailed view where I specify the columns shown for ALL devices, no matter what and where they are located.

So I'm hoping there's a way, maybe a registry edit somewhere where this satanic idea can be banished from the tfboy IT household!

right click to the right of the unwanted file heading on the white bit (to the right of the word Duration on your picture)

    Change the tick boxes.

However... dunno if it stays permanent

the normal ones are listed.. or clic MORE and get them ALL and the chance to chage the width of each column

Re: Permanently disabling Windows customised folder views

Thanks Zak, I'm aware of that. But it's not permanent and it's on a per-directory basis. So if I have 5 fields to remove per directory and I have 100 directories, that's 1000 clicks, enough to drive any patient man insane

It's a design fault IMO because as soon as it sees a device acting as a MTP (Media Transfer Protocol), it assumes (incorrectly) that it's a music device.

If I change my phone to MSC (Mass Storage Controller), then it works OK and I get the listing as for every other directory on my HDDs. But this is an issue as it only works for the SD card in the phone. The system memory is unavailable in this mode so I have to use the MTP one instead.

Just an update: I've now found Airdroid which is just great and will use that, at least for my phone.

Did you see this tutorial, about turning off Automatic Folder Type Discovery?

Yeah, but you can't apply it at the root level and it doesn't apply to MTP devices either
