Yes, it's illegal. MS come down quite hard on distribution of their stuff so I'd strongly recommend not doing it.

hmmm that doesn't seem right; why would a x86 image have the x64 patches in it or does it skipp the x64's and only installs the x86 ones ?
The 64bit versions shouldn't be there at all. I didn't see this though when testing. I'll take a look for you over the weekend if I get a second.
No one else has reported this, so please double check things your end. You've not downloaded and copied the 32bit and 64bit to same place have you?

Nope, d/l each to a different folder with in my win7_build folder.

Just patching each x86 image one by one currently to see what happens.

ahhh, so it's just the all images one playing up? That's perfectly possible. I might have made a typo / forgot to change a reference. Most of this was done at 4am when I was suffering from an insomnia period

Yup currently running it one by one and it looks to be patching it correctly - the iso is increasing in size to what i expect to some degree - either way running the patch one at a time still shows the x64 patches which is a bit odd.

Re: How to make a patched Windows 7 64 bit image - with a few clicks! (32bit added)

Have successfully updated my 64bit enterprise image and test working. not sure if having the temp folders on the RAM drive made it much quicker as I didnt time it.

32bit version now spat out and came to 3.2G ...

I will have a go with 2008 R2 and see how well it does.

    --

Came out at 5.485GB (5.1GB on disk) the image includes:

    Server Standard
    Server Standard Core
    Server Enterprise
    Server Enterprise Core
    Server Data Center
    Server Data Center Core
    Server Web
    Server Web Core

    ---

Installed Enterprise and after a restart and win update update it said 23 important and 2 optional. After installing those it came up with 1 important.

Doing the other updates from microsoft gives only silverlight.

So all in all it went very well it seems.

Re: How to make a patched Windows 7 64 bit image - with a few clicks! (32bit added)

I thought I might have a go at adding the latest update or at least some of them in the 2008 R2 iso

What happens with updates which are 2008 R2 specific (if they exist) if they were in the list would that get skipped if doing a normal win7 iso, would it try and it would be rejected and DISM would move on?

The other question is where do you get the links to put into url_list_msu.txt. I got some from using WUD but a lot of the ones I have listed above do not appear to be there.

Other than adding the .msu links to url_list_msu.txt what else would I need to change? also if I use the already updated image what do i need to do beyond deleting the old updates from url_list_msu.txt doing 262 takes time a lot of time for testing.

    Cheers.
    -
The updates I added just to url_list_msu.txt went in okay and I had 17 instead of 23

Re: How to make a patched Windows 7 64 bit image - with a few clicks! (32bit added)

    Hi

This is great, it's just what I need,so a big thank you from me.

I've only built the image so far using the 0_all_images

I did come across a error in it though, and have taken screen shots but the computer got shut down before I've saved them. I will find them again for you, if you want them?

Now just got to find a old USB stick to mount it on as my DVD's are only 4.7GB, not 5.2GB of the image.

One thing I would recommend for people to do is run the retrieving updates part of the script twice, as I had a couple that didn't work first time.

    Thank you again.

  10. Received thanks from:

The updates probably didn't get grabbed due to timeout issues. It does happen, sometimes, but rarely. I've noticed it a *lot* more on a Virgin connection for some reason.

The 'errors' were probably related to no drivers being found - that's fine, it's the was DISM reports them, and I can't do anything to change it. I suppose I could put a question in which asks if you want to add drivers, but it's just something else you have to answer that's unneeded really.

I've been super busy the last week or so, so sorry for not updating it yet, but it's coming!

Tried twice with the 32bit on a few PCs and everytime they get stuck on finalizing settings. 64Bit works nicely however.

It shouldn't be stuck, but it will take a while.

I've been having the same problem, I left a 32bit install running in a VM overnight and the next morning it was still at it, so ostensibly some patch is hanging, requiring a hard reset, so I'm not sure which patches didn't get fully applied.

Re: How to make a patched Windows 7 64 bit image - with a few clicks! (32bit added)

Okay thanks, I'll take a look into that as soon as I have a free second. The 32bit version does use a slightly different method of doing the final MS updates, so it looks like one of them is being a pain (or I've mistyped something).

Rebooting it won't cause any issues at the stage, you'll just be missing that patch, which will be present in Windows Update. It won't hose the install or anything as it's pretty much in Windows, minus loading explorer at that point.

Sorry for not having change to collate all the above posts and push a new version, life has just got very busy over the last few weeks.

Well in that case, it booted up more or less right away after it booted. So it's probably among the last patches in the update dependency chain that's the problem.
