    Windows Update problem

    Hi

I just installed a new Motherboard, processor and PSU and now Windows Update won't work. It says "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer." Restarting doesn't work.

I have tried the Windows Update standalone and Microsoft FixIt and neither worked. The standalone give the error code 0xc8000222 and FixIt can find a problem with Windows Update but can't fix it .

I'd rather not have to reinstall Windows. Any help would be appreciated.

    Edit:

    My specs are:

Windows Vista Premium Service Pack 2 32-bit
    AMD FX6300 6-core Processor
    Gigabyte 970A-DS3P Motherboard
    GTX580 GPU
    4GB RAM
    X Fi Xtreme Sound Card

    Re: Windows Update problem

Type services.msc into the start/run dialogue box, scroll down to Windows update and right click->start ?

It was already started. I tried restarting, and stopping and starting again but it's still the same.

    Also check the BITS service.

You might need to show us your log file - c:\windows\windowsupdate.log

I had an issue related to the internet sync time - as it could not locate it - it refused giving a similar message
