    Windows 10 Activation Woes

    Hi,

Just wondering if anyone else is having trouble activating their copy of Windows 10?

Upgraded from 8.1 Pro to 10 Pro and nada, wont' install, just says Error code: 0xC004C003, the activation server has determined this key is blocked. That's nice of them seeing as it was Microsoft that gave me that key and the key I upgraded from was bought directly from Microsoft when Win 8 was released.

It says goto Store, so I do that and it says it is having trouble activating and to try again, which I do and then says I have a genuine copy of Windows, then wont activate and round and round we go.

Anyway same thing is happening on my Samsung Windows 7 laptop and that had an OEM key from the factory so guess they have activation problems, but still, just wondering if its anyone else as my first computer this morning activated fine.

    Re: Windows 10 Activation Woes

Wait until tomorrow, when the 309 million other people are done flooding the MS servers.

Barring that, download the media installer direct from MS - no ISO's, no ESD's, whatever - get the correct version for your computer

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softw...load/windows10

Otherwise, no - not having issues here at all. 5 personal machines down, 4 others done for others, 5 more in progress.

You're having more luck than me. I'm struggling to get it downloaded on any of the 5 devices I have that are eligible..

I simply downloaded the Home and Pro versions, with the combined x86/64 ISO, and burned them both to a USB stick. Don't use the install program to download updates 5 times - huge amount of bandwidth, and no backup of the original. Using the installer for 1 or 2 machines isn't too bad... more than that is kind of crazy.

    Re: Windows 10 Activation Woes

Well what a nightmare that was but in the end got it sorted.

On my main machine had to reinstall Windows 8, thankfully though I didn't have to install any updates because as soon as Win 8 was installed it asked me if I wanted to upgrade, which I did and this time it activated ok.

My laptop had to keep tapping Activate Windows :/ But eventually managed it.

Anyway after that everything else is going ok so far.

    Re: Windows 10 Activation Woes

I plan on waiting to see the general response of reviews over the next few weeks at least (possibly a couple of months) before deciding whether to make the jump to upgrading.

Quick question: Can you uninstall all of the apps? Or are there some unable to be removed at all (such as Music and a few others) like with one of the Preview builds?

No, doesn't look like you can remove them, seem to be part of the system.

    Re: Windows 10 Activation Woes

I have had an absolute nightmare with it so far.

Got the notification last night so decided to take the plunge, so it went through the install and on the first restart I get a DOS message saying invalid MBR and no partition table.........never a good thing.

Chucks in my Win 7 disc and do an automatic boot repair which then for some reason locks my C:

In the end had to boot using Win 7 DVD, Advanced Options and into a Command Prompt, open up Diskpart and clean (effectively erase) my C: and now have a clean installation of 7 and going through the process of installing updates and trying to remember important website bookmarks and of course usernames and passwords.

Thankfully all my pics were backed up as of 24th July so haven't lost anything else.

Yes it can be turned off mate.

Multiple machines never came up with the notification so I just downloaded the media creation thing from Microsoft and started it myself.

    Re: Windows 10 Activation Woes

I've been having a bit of a nightmare myself.
Admittedly my Windows 7 Pro is OEM, I did a clean install of 7 with all the updates (SP1 and everything else) - activated fine/all genuine (Double checked on Microsoft website) but no Windows 10 update in the taskbar.

Went onto the Microsoft website (Wish I could find it again) and basically forced the update to happen with some tool

A while later i had windows 10 but activation failed no matter what I did with no visible error code - I'm assuming it's because of my OEM license or the fact I forced windows 10 to update without having the notification - I don't know

I did a clean install overnight and left it updating and will try again later today.
Have a couple of links and scripts to try if I don't have more luck

    Re: Windows 10 Activation Woes

    well that went surprisingly easy.

was from a 1 week old win 7 install, previous install just knackered itself after running somewhat fine for 5 years.
got the ISO from windows.com using those mediacreation tools.
then I extracted the ISO to its own folder on separate hard drive using WinRAR

ran the setup.exe from there choosingthe update and keep personal settings.
half hour later windows 10 fully up and running.
restarted it a few times because of driver updates through windows update. job done.

just need to activate it, like others, it wont activate.

only problems so far is that it wont let me personalise some settings - it needs to be activated for that, need to investigate why, I only want to change desktop picture.

the gadgets have disappeared aswell. was using network-meter and cpu-meter to monitor stuff.

    so far everything still works.

at least it went on quicker than the 5 hours it took to install and update win7 last week
