What I did was upgrade. MY Win 7 key became a Windows 10 key automatically. I then uninstalled. Downloaded the Windows 10 ISO and did a fresh Windows 10 install. The OS then activated itself.
I did have a few issues but I did all this on release day when the servers were swamped.

thanks kalniel, one more question, i've read in an old post here @hexus (Cheapest Windows 7) that you can receive copy of windows when you buy parts for pc, do you think it is still possible? If I buy for example most parts from Scan, will they add windows for free?
As far as I know this is rarely done for free. It is only if you buy a fully built PC at which point the price of Windows in included in the bill (unless you choose no os in the checkout). But you can't buy a cpu, mobo and ram etc or something and get windows 'free'. Unless they have a weird special offer on.

We would not be able to offer a free operating system with any orders for parts. Gone are the days of extremely high profit on hardware, and now it can be as low as a few percent on each item. This is why we operate on a low profit, high turnover for all our products.

Install media's not a problem. But being the same device is. Darn.
Looks like I'll still have to install win 7 and activate it on a new build before upgrading to 10.If you install this build of the Windows 10 Insider Preview on a PC and it doesn’t automatically activate, you can enter the product key from Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 used to activate the prior Windows version on the same device
Hmm or not? further down:
What's a qualifying device? If you do a clean install of Windows 10 by booting off the media, you can also enter the product key from prior Windows versions on qualifying devices
I've bought quite a few Windows 7 OEM keys from eBay and never had any problems.
