Question SoftwareGeeks - Too good to be true?

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Hexus forums.

I'm currently building a new rig (I won't talk specs here but it's low end and I'm cost cutting) so, I've been thinking about OS options. Originally I though I'd try a free option like SteamOS or other Linux builds however, I've decided to utilise Windows 10 for audio hardware compatibility.

Anyway, Windows prices are never a nice thing to look at, even Scan charges £80. I tried finding out if Microsoft sold products keys directly, cutting the cost of a physical disk (I'd use an ISO) and any third party fees - I've been unable to find out if this is possible. Could I install the ISO they purchase a key from Microsoft when they told me I don't have a genuine copy/licence?

If not, my search for cheap product keys lead me to this website https://softwaregeeks.co.uk/ - These prices, are they too good to be true? Has anybody else dealt with them and do you trust them?

    Thanks

It's an important component. The pricing is a bit frustrating when you're building a cheap system where nothing else is over £35. In this case you've paid more than that for your CPU and almost as much for your motherboard so I don't think you can really complain.

The one you linked to appears to be OEM keys only. With Windows 8.1 and 10 OEM licences are only good for putting on a system you're building to sell to a customer, you need a retail licence for personal use:

Microsoft do sell download only versions, but because a DVD or USB stick costs peanuts they're no cheaper:

The main disadvantage of an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) is that it is tied to the machine it is first installed on. You cannot transfer it to another, and it can cause problems later if you upgrade a component, particularly a major component.

The other snag is that you do not get support from MS. As an OEM you are responsible for providing support to your 'customer'.

As for the company you refer to, those prices do seem too good to be true, but I have no experience of them.

Working in the trade, looking at all them prices I can tell you they will be volume keys that could get blocked at any time. It's completely impossible for anyone to sell legit Oem keys for them prices.

All software is resellable - EU said so but MS still say it isnt.

I'd go with the big scary government type thing ahead of MS everytime.

Well if your pockets are deep enough to take on Microsoft....

Technically, it is the software licenses that are transferable, you don't own the software, only a licence to use it.

While I haven't looked very deeply into the ruling, it appears you to sell on a computer with OEM software installed, but doesn't refer to permitting OEM software to be loaded onto a different machine.

However, I am not a lawyer, so my interpretation may be wrong. If so, I'd be interested in a link to definitive/authoratitive document.

Re: SoftwareGeeks - Too good to be true?

For clarification, a post from someone at softwaregeeks (mark270) has been held pending review.

I have also closed the thread until that review is complete.
