Windows 8.1 now asking for login password.

    Evening peeps.

My wife has taken over my PC to play Rise of the Tomb Raider and last night it crashed. Tried the usual control alt delete and nothing so I powered off by holding power button for 5 seconds.

After that, it asked for a password which it never has done before.

I done some googling and tried a few things it asked and they didn't work.

    Tried this

    a. Press Windows + R and type*netplwiz, and then press Enter.

    b. In the User Accounts dialog box, click the account you want to automatically log on to. If it is available, clear the “Users Must Enter a User Name and Password to use this Computer” check box.

    c. Click OK.

    d. In the Automatically Log On dialog box, enter the user’s password twice and click OK.

But I don't have that check box.

    I also tried this

Right click on the desktop Task bar,Click Properties,Click Navigation tab,Under Start screen section Check "When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start",Click OK.

Mine is already setup as this.

Now I am at a loss.

    Anyone help?

instead of clicking the account to auto login can you untick the box it should then ask for your password twice.

Re: Windows 8.1 now asking for login password.

No it didn't as for some reason it didn't have it for me.

I did manage to fix it however. It looks like as I had a Microsoft account, it always needs a login. Now that I went to a local account it doesn't ask for it anymore however I have lost my syncing of my Gmail and calender.
