XBox 360: Scorch - yes, I have a console with a mouse!

So.. I bought one of these a couple of weeks back - primarily for the missus and her Oblivion quest. Know what? This thing works! The 'experience' on Oblivion is utterly perfect - it now plays like i'm on the PC and i've scored approximately 5000 wifey points in the process. Haven't had the chance to try other things but, wow, expensive but this is the most impressive console mouse combination i've tried period.

PLEASE NOTE

One thing I forgot to mention is you MUST own a WIRED '360 controller - this is used to plug into the dongle to bypass the consoles hardware validation check. Sorry if you missed this on their web site but I thought it wise to make this clear.

Pretty much my reaction - but as I say, i haven't used more than one game yet but yes, it's a reality. It's a difficult thing to do - obviously the console is designed for a completely different type of control and so there's a lot of jiggery pokery going on inside this thing to translate the controls. Clever stuff.

Edit: Where did you get it from? Might have a look at it myself, especially for the strategy games as games like C&C RA3 are dirt cheap (£5 or less)

I used Oblivion in first person mode - but i'll try a bunch of games this weekend (don't have all that many in all honesty) to see what it's like for other things. I got mine from..

Gotta admit this looks promising. I quite like the nunchuck-esque other controller. Will be interested in your opinions in other types of games, if you get the chance to check them out...

That looks a lot better than the method I had to use a couple of years ago. I think it was a XFPS that allowed you to use a USB mouse and keyboard. Again, used the same trick of having a wired controller to fool the system. However, whilst it worked, the mouse movement wasn't perfect due to the way a mouse moves vs a thumb stick (acceleration/speed wasn't linear). Still, I could literally run circles around people in CoD4, and even jump around whilst doing it!

Even with this controller, I'd still prefer PC gaming. It's more the mindset of games (I can save when I like, not at bloody checkpoints), not to mention I seem to remember the console being noisy (haven't used my 360 for a couple of years now), and slower in loading games, having to pay to play online etc.

It's very comfortable to use - the nunchuck is very easy to hold in a restful state - the mouse is good although all those sidebuttons are initially confusing.

It's hard work to get this working well with everything from what i've read (in terms of developing a device to do so) but it's extremely configurable both via firmware updates and a comprehensive 'tweaking' panel on the PC.

I've been frogmarched into downloading the RA3 demo to try so i'll post my impressions of that

Bear in mind the Scorch is an evolution on from the Fragnstein - at least that's what the dev blog led me to believe - so it actually performs better (or so i'm told).

Ok cool, I've recently purchased an XBOX 360 for my nephew so I might just 'borrow' it off him, buy both and compare
