360 Slim 250gb keeps turning on by itself.

There's nothing in front of the sensor but the 360 keeps beeping and coming on, opening the tray and closing again (sometimes tray stays open).
Bigger irritation is it does this when i'm playing a game..the console beeps and the tray opens so it goes back to the dashboard.
Seems quite random too.

tried all sorts:
different controller
batteries out of controller
another hdmi socket on tv
disabled wireless on router
ethernet only connection
changed to default settings on 360
moved 360 to various locations

amongst other attempts.

Any ideas or have i just got a dodgy 360?
If so back to Amazon it goes

cleaned the front? might have something on the disc eject button

If not I'd say dodgy, back up all saves etc of course

Tried changing the remote control options to "xbox remote only" or something, it's in the settings. Possible something could be interfering with that. I was stuck wondering why my xbox turned on every time I powered on my media center for a while.

Yep, all clean and spotless..it's new too.

Looks like you've got a dodgey one then, don't think the fronts of these pop off for a clean do they? Not really had a look at mine, they do seem overly sensitive though.

Just wondering, have you done a license transfer to this one? As far as I know it's a once a year deal?

No zap..no transfer...started again from scratch.
The old 360's fronts popped off but don't think these do.
Gonna go back to work and hopefully more luck later...otherwise back it goes.

Returned it to Amazon..already have the new one and no trouble at all with the replacement. (yet)

Even though you have the new 360, did you check the old one for the update option as mine was turned on as standard and I had to turn it off. Can't remember where the option is but I remember the option to allow the 360 to turn itself on for updates and download demo's/games that are sitting in your queue.

Hi Grey M@a, yes i checked that option...excellent thought but the old 360 really did have a mind of it's own and would turn on, ping a few times, open tray, turn off, close tray whenever it felt like it. I'm guessing there was a dodgy connection somewhere.

Um self power on and trays opening on their own there is definitely a dodgy connection there somewhere.

Actually, mines done this a couple of times too since the dashboard update last week. Thought I was going mad!

Must be something in the update, maybe a new setting that needs turning off.

Have you ever had your neighbour come round with their own controllers? My neighbour next door can turn my xbox on with his controller while he's still in his house! He syncs his controller to my Xbox when he comes over and forgets about it.

I have had my xbox slim 250g do this about 8 times today, turns on by itself with a light indicating a controller is on, i have three, none of them are turned on. Took out batteries for all of them still did it.. Unplugged kinect and it seemed to work ok.. maybe a fault in kinect? maybe one of the controllers?

k0rruption..sounds like a fault in either kinect or the 360..i've not had one problem since acquiring my replacement 360.
