Will This Work For A Scratched 360 Disc?

    Hi,

My sons Fifa 12 has become unplayable, the disc is scratched but doesn't look overally bad but other games play so can only assume its the disc, and I can't take another night of the complaining about it not working lol.

Will this work to restore the disc :-

    http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/skipdo...57473-pdt.html

They seem to do a different version for the xbox but thats a lot more expensive and I can't really work out what the difference would be as I assume the xbox disc is just basically the same as a dvd.

    Any help appreciated

I've always used the duster and furniture polish approach.

Take a duster that already has some polish on (not too much though), and gently wipe from the middle to the edge in a straight line. Repeat all the way around the disc.

This basically takes a "layer off", and reduces the impact of any scratches or scuffs.

I've had mixed success with it over the years. Some discs are too badly damaged for anything to repair, others work fine after this.

Could have a look at Game or Amazon?

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-lis...condition=used

Say you pay £14, theres a possibility you may still have problems as there is no guarantee it will fix the problem?

if you go to your local Game store, they will run it through there machine for £2.

My wifes COD MW2 disk got some serious lazer burn and the machine 'cut' off a very very thin layer of the disk and its all gone and game works fine.

Best way, and if it doesn't work, they will re do it for free.

Re: Will This Work For A Scratched 360 Disc?

Local Game should be able to help out, failing them I have seen disc repairs done at my local Blockbusters & CeX

I've always been fortune in 'repairing' any light scratches with some of the methods found online, but like you said for a couple of quid take it to Game

As in the third FIFA/different games? In that case, and without sounding short, the most appropriate thing would be to get him to look after his stuff.

Try installing the games to the HDD as well so it runs off the HDD. That way if he knocks the 360 while its in use it *shouldn't* scratch the dis as accidental scratches can happen that way.

Re: Will This Work For A Scratched 360 Disc?

Yeah the third game this year, different games. To be fair he does look after the discs pretty well and I can't actually see any scratches that would normally cause the disc to be unreadable, only light scratches etc, but all other games work so going to take it to Blockbuster end of the week, ironically my local one has run out of the pads to do the discs, apparently lots of discs coming in to be cleaned at the moment.

Re: Will This Work For A Scratched 360 Disc?

Well, took the disc to blockbuster and they cleaned it, looks brand new now. Put it in and it still doesn't read, this is the only game that doesn't read, all others do and ironically if I put the disc into the pc, it reads it straight away, well the parts it can read on a pc.

I just don't know how one disc can't be read, I can understand it if a few discs were unreadable.

Re: Will This Work For A Scratched 360 Disc?

As it has happened a few times now, is it a case of the discs being left out of their cases, or are they coming out of the Xbox scratched?

Re: Will This Work For A Scratched 360 Disc?

I remember reading a while ago on another forum that EA especially has suffered from some disc manufacturing problems so that a very very small % of discs aren't pressed right.

Apparently poorly balanced disc will wont read correctly and will wobble very very slightly causing some light scratching on the disc surface.....?

Could be worth also trying a lens cleaner or using some compressed air to clear anything from the 360 disc lens...

I had some disc reading errors on one of my 360s and it turned out the dvd drive was packing up, only happened on some games/discs now and again, but started to happen more & more

I got the RROD before the drive became critical so it was onto 360 no.4

Thanks for all the comments people.

Like I said had the disc cleaned and still nothing, opened the drive, cleaned it etc etc etc and still nothing, so tried one last thing and that was to adjust the laser strength, now the game reads first time, every time, only took 2 seconds

Re: Will This Work For A Scratched 360 Disc?

Whoops, I meant lower the resistance, increase the laser power. It's one of the screws on the back of the laser, there are two together, I turned the left one anti-clockwise just under a quarter of a turn. Though it will reduce the life of the laser, but then replacement lasers are cheap if it does go.
