    Motherboard for Q9450

Looking at building my own system, want to go with the Q9450 chip.
Looking at the Asus P5E, iX38 @£127 from Scan.
    What do you recommend?

Striker II Extreme 790i board when it comes out soon (or the cheaper evga/xfx 790i ultra boards)
The 790i's are getting really good reviews, they're turning out to be really good overclockers plus they give you the option to SLi. They're DDR3 so extra futureproof, and use PCI-E 2.0. And they support all the newfangled high FSB (1600MHz+) CPU's.

    So does the QuadGT

    They're DDR3 so extra futureproof
If it ever actually gets going. The performance between DDR2 & DDR3 is SOOOO tiny. Future Proof is a big statement when you dont know whats coming next.

QuadGT - Cheaper and has Crossfire (if that kind of thing turns you on)

For some reason I was under the impression that the Nehalem architecture was going to use DDR3? Wikipedia has more, add this to the address (I can't post URLs yet) /wiki/Nehalem_%28microarchitecture%29
Which means that if you have a DDR3 motherboard now, you won't have to upgrade your RAM if you upgrade to Nehalem in a year or so.

Also DDR3 prices have come down. You can get 2GB for £100. 4 months ago they were £190

    HFX Classic - ASUS P5B SE - Intel e2140 - 4GB DDR2 - ATI HD 2400 - Silverstone 300W passive PSU - 320gb WD - IMON VFD - BrogFX 520 & VGA heatsinks

For £100 i can get 4 times that on DDR2.

I would rather save the cash now and spend when the prices are actually viable and realistic.
Especially seeing how there isnt any noticeable performance increase aswell.

The DDR3 that will be around when the new CPUs/Skts are released will be better quality and better timed then aswell.

Whatever angle its looked at, unless you have a DDR3 only board (which is a silly waste of money for nothing), there is no good reason to buy it.

    Why is a DDR2 board a waste?
(think about it and you will realise its not)

gaming performance gains on ddr3 are insignificant for the price difference too
check tomshardware.com or .co.uk in their new ram tests, the much faster ddr3 with its a bit higher latencies get beaten by ddr2.

Well if you read the forums rather than just creep around in this section you would know why i said it.

Firstly, you pathetic ABIT Boy flame comes from a tiny brain. You only mentioned this because you have one of the boards i questioned. Rightly so aswell...its very overpriced for what it is/does.

Just becasue a company is the biggest, it doesnt make them the most reliable. Asus chave a VERY questionable CS department.
Im not an ABIT fan because of the product. Im an ABIT fane because of the support that omes with it.

So do YOU think you can 'wrap your mind' around that?? (Are you an 80's yuppie throwback? You must be using terms like that).

LOL well said, his just bitter because he already purchased a second rate board instead of doing some research and asking around in forums etc. when spending that kind of money i would be researching and wont just buy somthing because its made by such and such, thats a home made fanboy right there.
