Re: Motherboard for Q9450
Striker II Extreme 790i board when it comes out soon
(or the cheaper evga/xfx 790i ultra boards)The 790i's are getting really good reviews, they're turning out to be really good overclockers plus they give you the option to SLi. They're DDR3 so extra futureproof, and use PCI-E 2.0. And they support all the newfangled high FSB (1600MHz+) CPU's. |

Re: Motherboard for Q9450
For some reason I was under the impression that the Nehalem architecture was going to use DDR3? Wikipedia has more, add this to the address (I can't post URLs yet) /wiki/Nehalem_%28microarchitecture%29
Which means that if you have a DDR3 motherboard now, you won't have to upgrade your RAM if you upgrade to Nehalem in a year or so. |

Re: Motherboard for Q9450
Also DDR3 prices have come down. You can get 2GB for £100. 4 months ago they were £190
HFX Classic - ASUS P5B SE - Intel e2140 - 4GB DDR2 - ATI HD 2400 - Silverstone 300W passive PSU - 320gb WD - IMON VFD - BrogFX 520 & VGA heatsinks

I would rather save the cash now and spend when the prices are actually viable and realistic. Especially seeing how there isnt any noticeable performance increase aswell. The DDR3 that will be around when the new CPUs/Skts are released will be better quality and better timed then aswell. Whatever angle its looked at, unless you have a DDR3 only board (which is a silly waste of money for nothing), there is no good reason to buy it. |

Re: Motherboard for Q9450
gaming performance gains on ddr3 are insignificant for the price difference too
![]() check tomshardware.com or .co.uk in their new ram tests, the much faster ddr3 with its a bit higher latencies get beaten by ddr2. |

Re: Motherboard for Q9450

if youcan't wrap your mind around the thing that there might be more than one good thing in the world, at least let the people make a sensible choice without your 2 to 3 word bitching |
