Motherboard running hot
Just signed up so Hi,
New to these forums because so far I've been lucky with my old computers. Abit IN9 32X-MAX motherboard is running hot on PWM Phase 3, on startup it is showing 98 in the bios all the others are showing around 60-70, within minutes of Windows [Vista 32] loading it is 111 at idle and at 125 within ten minutes or so. Running stock Intel cooler with the Q6600 but I have tried it with a Alaska cooler with the same reading's, even swopped the Q6600 for my old E6600 in case it was the CPU but both show the same reading. All monitored with the Abit software. I was asked to download the coretemp software and see what the reading were in this software but it is only showing the 2 core temps of the E6600 which are almost the same as the Abit software is showing for the CPU at 28 -30 on startup, is there another program that will show the PWM temps. Cheers. |

Re: Motherboard running hot
erm, i think speed fan does but i cant be definate on that, and those temps can't be right, surely, have you tried flashing bios? cos i was having a problem with asus probe a while back but it was voltages and it showed all the voltages as being around 4.08V. try speed fan and then if it says the same thing, turn your comp off, poke the motherboard. is it hot?? if not then it's probably worth a bios revision
im not sure if abit have an easy OS based flash tool like asus(im guessing that they will have, im sure someone else will confirm) so you may need to flash by floppy or something.edit:have you tried using the latest version of the abit s/w ? oh and welcome to heXus NewUsers Clickys: Post Counts and Other Rewards, Guidelines, Folding@Home. *Shamelessly TWOCed from Stevie |

Re: Motherboard running hot
it sounds like that MOSFET isn't making good contact with the PWM sink for some reason
You might want to consider taking it off & checking & refitting. The digital PWM does run hotter but it's also specified accordingly - the warning level is set at 125C. abit IP35 Pro, E6600/NH-12F, X1900XT, FSP 700W abit AB9 QuadGT, E6600/SI-120, 7800GT, FSP 600W abit AX78, 5000+ Black Edition/XP-120, 7800GT, Corsair HX520 My HEXUS.trust abit forums |

Re: Motherboard running hot
Hi and thank you all for your help, sorry for the delay, Yoyotech asked me to return the board to them so they could carry out an inspection and test to see if they get the same reading on the PWM Phase 3.
I've had to fire up the old steam powered pc to get back on line while I wait for Yoyotech to test the board. I think you are all on the right track because on closer inspection the north block seems to be a little loose on the top corner next to the memory slots, not pushing to hard the block will go back towards the motherboard in this corner however it just springs back, as there are only two pins holding the block to the motherboard I think the heatpipes are pulling it away, apart from bending the pipes so it will sit correctly maybe the only answer is to replace the pins with a nut and bolt. Should the block be tight to the board or should it be able to move. Fingers crossed I will receive a replacement which will work correctly out of the box. Yes I did use the Abit program to flash the Bios which went from 10 to 13, this did help with the memory timings but made no difference to the temps, the block was hot to the touch but you could keep you hand on it so it looks like we are back to a bad contact?. Just checking emails etc it would reach the 125 within half an hour. Once again I would like to thank you all for taking the time in replying to my question and these forums are really helpful. |
