A little problem with my newly bought PC.

Hi just received the tower from Yoyotech, everything is perfect but im not able to connect to the internet. Im not quite sure whats wrong.
I think it's supposed to detect automatically once i plug it in but it doesnt? Then when i try to connect it says its trying to connect using WAN? dunno what that is. Anyone had a similar problem or know how to solve it?

Im using a broadband connection, RJ45 able . When i plug it in there is a green steady light and a flashing orange light. I assume that means the connection is OK. When i click on Inter Explorer a "connect" dialogue box omces up and after a while it comes up with 815 Error.

Need help , devine intervention would be great too.

    ----- Edit ----

Fixed the problem, No worries. But theres just another issue. I have 2 fans in my tower. One is on the side panel and the other is loose? When i opened it was resting agains the graphics card, its in between the card and the big silver thing which i assume is the processor lol. Shouldn't it be stuck on the back end?

    Hi Mun,

Is your CPU cooler a Freezer 7?

If so then it could have possibly have fallen off the rubber mounts and should be fairly easy to re-attach

Yes its the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Fan. I'll try re-attach it when i get home and will let you know. I just have to put the rubber ends on the 4 hole slots in the back right?

Yes, all you have to do is allign the rubber gromits to the holes in the fan and then pull them through.

I honestly saw no way of mounting the fan up. The only way was to take it off the little platform thingy it was on (bottom part of the fan) and pull the rubber holes throgh the honeycomb holes in the back. The side panel is blowing air in and the back one which is now directly in front of the big silver thing is blowing the air out. Was that the right thing to do?

Yes mun, that is the right way to go!

In response to flibblesan, almost all motherboards now will shut down before anything is damaged as there are systems in place to prevent overheating.

Re: A little problem with my newly bought PC.

One more thing, my tower has the following "Corsair 2Gb (2 x 1Gb) DDR2 800Mhz (4-4-4-12) PC Memory" on the "Abit IP35 Motherboard". If im not mistaken that essentially means I have to 1 GB Ram chips on two of the 4 available slots. I can cimply add another 2 1GB Chips in th remaining two slots right?

What i want to know is if they have to be the same model as the ones already in there and if they have to be 1GB because of the 2 chips already in there. Also will have to do any setting up? or it just plug and play?

I was thinking of putting in 2 2GB Ram chips making it 6GB altogether but i dunno if that is possible.

your advice is much apprciated and needed. Thank you.

    I'd suggest just getting/using a 4GB (2x 2GB) dual channel kit, and flogging your 2x 1GB sticks.

Whilst you could use them in conjunction with the 2x 1GB modules you're using just now...
Windows OS don't really benefit from anything above 4GB in standard desktop systems... even 64bit OS

Re: A little problem with my newly bought PC.

You will ideally need to get the same pair of modules that you already have in your system. This is to match the voltage, speed and memory timings with the ones you already have.

Yours sound like stock code 4776 on our site. (Corsair 2Gb (2X1Gb) TwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC6400)

Thats just a guess but you should be able to check it with your reciept

You can by all means go up to 6GB ram, but you will need to be using 64bit Windows before it will see it all.

Vista 32bit SP1 can see a max of 4Gb (depending on motherboard) and XP 32bit can only see up to 3.3 - 3.5 GB (also motherboard dependant)

    I hope this has helped

Ah yes that answers nearly all of my question. I have vista 64 Bit and the IP35 motherboard which goes to about 8GB i think.

Last thing i wanted to know is if its just plug and play? Say i buy another 2 2GB Chips. Is it as easy as slot it in and away we go?

Re: A little problem with my newly bought PC.

    Memory is always really easy

Turn your machine off and take the power out of the wall after 'Earthing' yourself (i.e. by touching a metal part of the PSU)

    Then you have a choice...

If you system has been built to the highest standards - and you are happy working at awkward angles etc - then you can try to fit the memory 'in situ'

However, when I do this kind of thing, I always take the opportunity to unplug everything from the back and get the PC (flat) on to a well lit desk (taking care not to scratch the outside !)

Don't know about you lot, but I find that this is a great time to Hoover not only in/around all the gunky cables under my desk - but also (carefully - and with the small attachment !!!) inside the chassis itself

You might also want to have a blast around first with a 'spray duster'... AF Sprayduster Compressed Air

Sitting the memory is normally straightforward, because there is a small 'divider' that is 'just not quite' in the middle... this will help you get the memory in the right way around

Make sure that the 'retention clips' are OPEN - as it will take a lot longer if they are already closed

Use a decent amount of force (not too much) to make each module 'snap in'

Put everything back together carefully - plus in the power - and boot

Your system will automatically see the memory and Windows will start to change things like the size of your scratch file etc

For 'the finishing touches', you might want to consider running something like System Mechanic (check suitability yourself !) which can also really help make a difference

    Good luck !
