    1600 bus speed

    will getting a motherboard with 1600 fsb speed instead of 1066 do much in terms of performance for a Q6600 set up with 8GB ram

    no, because unless you overclock it will still run it at it's default 1066.

    No, it's still depends on what the chip is willing to give. Just because the mobo can handle a 1600FSB doesn't mean the chip will too.

    most P35s will overclock to 1600fsb anyway even if they don't officially support it.

    but individual CPUs vary in their ability to overclock - some are better than average & some are worse. It's luck of the draw.
