Problem with front panel audio on AB9 Pro

I've connected the front panel audio up on my AB9 Pro (I think) and indeed the audio out works as I've connected headphones to it.

But I can't get the microphone to work (it does work in the rear connector). I've checked in the mixer that "pink front panel" is not muted or with very low level.

Also, I notice that when I plug into the rear connectors it detects and I get a little notification in the system tray and a pop up window checking what I've plugged in. Also, in the Realtek HD audio utility it highlights the device now plugged in. But I get non of this with the front panel audio.

It also looks (may be unrelated) that the digital audio in/out are active (seem highlighted as well) although I'm not using any digital audio in or out.

Do your front panel connectors work just as per the rear ones?

    Andy

So the rear microphone jack works fine but nothing from the front one?

Are your front connector plugs the fool proof kind that only fit one way or are they the individual plugs for each pin? Is it possible to connect your front headphone sockets plug which you know work to the motherboards front microphone pins?

I can't even get the cable from the front to the socket (FP_Audio) on my AB9 Pro, how did you manage it? Its right near the PCI-e port isn't it?

andybray, the AB9 Pro uses an HD codec but are your case fp connections HD or are they AC97?

    Andybray,
    Did u find anything intersting???
I mean... i have the same problem... i did exactly what the user's manual say, but my mic (front panel jack) doesnt work!!!
Not impossible, but i think that its very hard to believe that i could made something wrong. i prove is that my headfones work great!

My case has 3 cables to connect, they are: Mic Power, Mic In and Mic Ground.
The user's manual makes reference to "Mic in" at pin 1, "GROUND" at pin 2 and "Mic Power" at pin 3...
And that was what i did! :/

So... i was so pissed off that i tried some other things like:
"Mic In" at pin 3 and "Mic Power" at pin 1
Connect only the Mic In at pin1 and after tried only "Mic in" at pin 3 either... and guess what? no... it doesnt work!

Please ppl... help me... I cant live without this front panel!
Andybray, did u find anything good?

your mobo has an HD codec but it sounds like your case fp connectors are AC'97.

Try this - go into the Realtek Audio Manager & click the Audio I/O tab & then click "Connector Settings".
Click "Disable Front Panel Jack Detection" & then click OK to confirm.

Found this LINK where intel shows that their HD header is also AC97 compatible and shows pinout for both, obviously our codec is Realtek so Ill hunt on their site, but definately try wot Buff suggested, hes a clever feker when it comes to abit

Well guys... i will try... be sure. but i doubt that it could solve the problem... thats because im almost sure that i already tried that cause the user's manual say something like that, so... i probably tried this one...
Just to remember... the mic is the problem... the "rest" works PERFECT using the FP... :/

but ok... i will try the BUFF advice again and tomorrow and tell u guys if it works...
    See ya tomorrow!

PS: im starting to think that we wont be able to solve this one... lol damm

I've seen mention of people having problems when they installed the drivers with something plugged in. Subsequent installation without apparently worked - but we're starting to grab at straws now ...
