    Quad GT.

Yes I've got one so I'm in the club , anyway its coming tomorrow and I'm just wondering if the bios on it will be the most recent one available and if not is there another one thats been released since the 12/11/2006 release, as I dont want to run into any trouble with sata and IDE conflicts that I've heard about.

Welcome to the GT club! You can pretty much guarantee that the board will come with the release 10 BIOS. This does, as you are aware, have some issues, most notably an inability to run the ICH8R controller configured in RAID mode alongside disks or optical drives connected via another controller (the onboard JMicron, or even an add-in PCI/PCIe controller).

The 10 BIOS will also not allow the system to boot with any USB storage devices connected - which, given the other bug is obviously a bit of a catch 22 if you want to run RAID, as you can't even use a USB optical drive to install the OS!

There have been two publicly circulated beta BIOSes over the last few weeks. The first, 11b2, fixes the USB boot issue. The second, 11b6, fixes the incompatibility between the ICH8R in RAID mode and other controllers, and apparently fixes some issues encountered when installing Vista with a quad-core processor, but unfortunately introduces a couple of small (but livable) issues with the processor power management features.

As such, if you have a Core 2 Quad, or want to run RAID, the best of the publicly circulated BIOSes available to you at time of writing is 11b6. If you want to run single drives, you want the beta 2. However, we've been led to believe that the release of the full 11 BIOS is imminent, so a bit of patience (or neat timing from Abit) may save you some messing about.

If you do want one of the betas, the trouble at the moment is that the Abit USA forum is down, and thus so are the direct download links. However, a number of us on here have them - if you'd like them, just drop a pm with your mail address.

Thanks for that, now second question can I flash the bios without having to enter windows. I.E before I install it at all as I'm looking to put windows on a raid. If so how, most likely it will become clear once I read the manual tomorrow.

Yeah, you can flash from a bootable floppy disk. If you use XP to create one, delete all the crap you don't need off it or your BIOS flash files won't fit. All you need left on the disk is msdos.sys, io.sys and command.com.

Then download the M621E_10 release BIOS package from Abit then copy the awdflash.exe and abitfae.bat files over to the disk, along with M621E_11.B06.

Boot from it, and use the command line abitfae m621e_11.b06 to commence flashing.

    Hi Richh,

Any chance you can send me the latest Beta Bios? I think it's Beta BIOS M621E_11.B06 or is it M621E_11A.B06 (is this same?)

On the Abit forums, where the latest beta downloads are, I can only aquire Beta BIOS M621E_11.B02

Or if their is a newer Beta Bios, can you let me know Sean @ Abit ??
