Nvidia Nforce PCI System Management Bus driver messed up?

    Hi folks:

Well, something interesting I discovered something on my current Abit
KN8-SLI which apparently I have in common with quite a few other people
    with various Nforce4 boards:
    http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=178833

The entry for Nvidia Nforce PCI System Management Bus in Device Manager,
on the main Properties page reports "no drivers are installed for this device".

    Here come the contradictions:

On the main driver tab of the page, it reads:
    "Driver provider: Nvidia
    Driver Date: 7/27/2004
    Driver version: 4.4.5.0
Driver Publisher: Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publisher"

If you click driver details, it says: "No driver files are required or
have been loaded for this device"

    Then, under the Resources tab:
    Input/Output Range D000 - D01F

    But under "Conflicting Device List"
    Input/Output Range 1C00 - 1C3F not available.
    Input/Output Range 1C40 - 1C7F not available.

However, Device Manager does not seem to be allocating the latter
two I/O ranges to any other device-it seems only to be allocated to the SMBus.

I've seen this problem reported with Abit boards, Asus boards, and DFI boards.

Which one is it? Is it installed or not? Is it conflicting or not?
What the heck is going on here?

Install the latest nForce4 AMD drivers from nVidia to update the driver issue. I also have the conflict message - seems to be a bum steer IMO, as my system has been rock solid for just under a year now.

    Scrandman:

    Thanks again for your help.

Do you know for a fact that the latest drivers will fix the issue,
    or is this a hypothesis?

At the moment, I just reworked my SCSI drive system due to
data corruption issues, and I'm loathe to try changing anything.

Can only say that I'm running the 6.86 driver with no such message.

Sounds good Scrandman. Where can I find the 6.86 drivers?

Are you using the same motherboard? If you're using a different board,
I don't know if I'll have the same results.

    Scrandman:

Looking back, boy, was that a dumb question I asked above. Duh! I of course
found the drives, and I installed them. Thanks again.

Strangely enough, though, it did not fix the problem for me at all.
    Weird, eh?

Any ideas why that might be?

Sorry - looking back I misread the original post. I also show the nVidia driver installed, but have the "No drivers are installed for this device" message.

Personally I think it's just a Windows glitch - I kinda stopped bothering about these spurious issues a few years back - as long as it runs OK, then I'm happy.
