Im just starting to look at upgrading my system, fancy an entry level quad core running on a Fatal1ty FP-IN9 SLI. Is it still worth getting or should i look at a newer board?

yeah the boards ok as long as you dont want to overclock hugely with it
i am happy with mine most of the time
Not too worried about overclocking as long as its still a pretty good board, that'll do for me.
the question is do you ever really expect to run SLI?
If you don't get a P35 based mobo (IP35-E etc.).

so whats the difference between the different IP35 mobos? was thinking about the pro but not sure what the difference is?

IP35-E - basic mobo. 4 SATA, no RAID
IP35 - 6 SATA ( RAID), firewire, solid caps around CPU
IP35 Pro - 6 SATA (RAID), 2 eSATA, firewire, 2nd physical x16 slot (x4 electrical), 2 gigabit Nics, uGuru, external clear CMOS, on board power & reset switches, 100% solid caps

Seems im now just looking for the hottest MoBo out there for gaming, any suggestions?

The IP35 series is still a good choice.

Again can't speak for the MSI but the abit has them on CD with an utility to make a floppy.
i'm sorry maybe i grew up in age with computers when companies were kind enough to supply you a floppy disk with drivers on, as you have just pointed out the cd comes with a utility to make a raid floppy which would have been handy if he could get the sata dvd drive to work. but sadly he did scroll all the way down the list and it wasnt on there he had to get an ide cd drive to do it and then after windows was installed he could get it to workQuote:

it's not an uncommon mistake for people to make.
absolutely sure he says he checked all the way down and it wasn't there. it could well have been a setup error on his part but i'm not gonna say that to him he already has to send the msi back cos it has no remvoable bios chipQuote:
